29-May-2003
The Northerns Cricket Union is extremely excited to announce that the Nashua Titans have signed Reon King as their overseas professional for the coming 2003-04 cricket season. King, 27, is a right-arm fast bowler from Guyana in the West Indies. To date he has represented the West Indies in 14 Test matches and 48 one-day internationals, as well as having played close to 100 first-class matches for Guyana. His last Test appearance for the West Indies was at the end of 2001, where after and to date he has been out of favour with the West Indies National Selection Committee. Reon comes highly recommended as a player and person via various sources, and it is expected that he will make his mark immediately. Reon is currently playing cricket in the United Kingdom and will arrive at SuperSport Park during September, in time for the Titans pre-season programmes.
Dave Nosworthy - Titans Manager/Coach
"I believe that Reon will be a great asset to the Titans set-up and will fit in really well, not only from a playing point of view - but also in terms of bringing through our other very talented young players. I am really looking forward to seeing him in action, and am sure that he will provide much fire-power and entertainment for all of our loyal supporters."
Reon King - Titans Player
"I am extremely delighted to be given an opportunity to be part of the Nashua Titans professional unit for the 2003-04 South African cricket season. I am certainly looking forward to meeting the players, staff, friends, and fans of the Titans - of which all will certainly add to the development of my all round cricketing acumen, and ultimately the success of the Titans. This opportunity will also no doubt boost my chances of restarting my Test career that actually started at the home of the Titans - SuperSport Park in 1998-99!"
Brandon Foot - President of Northerns Cricket Union is delighted to welcome Reon King to the Titans Cricket Family.
"I am confident that Reon King will add tremendous value in ensuring that our many young local players will progress to the highest level, in the tradition of other West Indian professional cricketers who have similarly nurtured local young talent in South Africa"
Elise Lombard - CEO Northerns Cricket Union
"The inclusion of Reon King in the Nashua Titans squad is indeed exciting. We look forward to seeing him in action on the Park"
