Islamabad, Nov 18: Former Test all-rounder Salahuddin Ahmad was
appointed chairman of the selectors, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ad
hoc committee chairman Dr Zafar Altaf announced here on Thursday.
Former Test spinner Iqbal Qasim and former Pakistan juniors coach
Masood Iqbal were named as the other two selectors. The selection
committee replaces the body of Col (retd) Naushad Ali with Ramiz Raja
and Abdur Raqeeb who were appointed by the previous set-up of
Mujeeb-ur-Rehman.
Salahuddin, who represented Pakistan in five Tests, has been a
eight-time member of selection committee. His last assignment as a
selector was until July this year when he worked under Wasim Bari.
Salahuddin was also a member of Dr Zafar Altaf's selection committee
between 1995 and 1996.
Iqbal Qasim, a veteran of 50 Tests in which he took 171 wickets, last
worked as a selector under the chairmanship of Imtiaz Ahmad in
1994-95.
Masood Iqbal never played Test cricket for Pakistan but toured England
in 1972 and 1978 as second wicket-keeper to Wasim Bari.
Dr Zafar Altaf said Salauddin's appointment as head of the selection
committee was due to his honesty, commitment and knowledge of the
game.
