Solanki elected as PCA chairman

Vikram Solanki has been elected as the new chairman of the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), succeeding the former England one-day allrounder, Dougie Brown. In a keenly contested election, Shaun Udal, Dominic Cork, Mal Loye, Michael Brown and Stephen Peters also put their names forward for the post.

"The office of chairman is a crucial role in the PCA and I'm looking forward to welcoming Vikram into our senior management team," said Sean Morris, the PCA chief executive.

"With nearly two decades' experience of both domestic and international cricket, Vikram is well equipped to assist the PCA in its central role of working with the key stakeholders, to ensure improvement both on and off the field."

Solanki, who played the last of his 51 ODIs against Sri Lanka in 2006, has captained Worcestershire for the last five years and also sits on the ECB Cricket Committee and the PCA Advisory Committee.

"I am honoured that the players have chosen me to represent them as their chairman," said Solanki. "I intend to build on the superb work already being undertaken by the PCA, in acting in the best interests of our members and driving the game forward."
