Dale Steyn and Johan Botha are the new faces in South Africa's squad for the first Twenty20 match against West Indies be played at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth, on December 16.
The selectors reposed their faith in the youngsters who were in the side during the ICC World Twenty20 in September and experienced players Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher were left out.
"We want to give more opportunities to younger players like JP Duminy, Vernon Philander, Albie Morkel, Gulam Bodi and Dale Steyn," said Joubert Strydom, the chairman of the selection panel. "In the case of Dale, we want him to get more experience of playing with the white ball and in coloured clothing.
"At the same time we have kept a core of experience in Graeme Smith, Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers, Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini," Strydom said. "We did not consider Kallis, Boucher and Andre Nel as they all have a heavy workload coming up in the Test series and the ODI series against the West Indies."
Smith has been struggling with an illness and in case he does not recover in time, Morne van Wyk will replace him while Pollock will lead the side.
The second and final Twenty20 match against West Indies is on January 18 in Johannesburg after the completion of the three Test matches.
