Chopra had played in the quadrangular series in Australia in April, which also featured New Zealand and England, but was not picked for the recently-concluded Asia Cup. He played five List A games for Himachal in the 2011-12 domestic season, scoring a half-century that helped set up a win against Services.
Wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson and seamer Ravikant Singh, who were part of the Asia Cup squad, have missed out. Ravikant did not get a game at the Asia Cup, but Samson - who played as a specialist batsman - registered a highest score of 9 in four innings. India were joint-winners in the series, after tieing the final with Pakistan.
India are placed in Group C for the World Cup, with West Indies, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea. Their first match is on August 12, against West Indies. The tournament runs from August 11 to August 26 in Queensland, Australia.
