The long-awaited Extraordinary General Meeting of the USA Cricket Association will finally take place in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, December 10.
The ongoing dispute between the USACA and the Council of League Presidents has led to virtual stagnation of all decision making of anything to do with cricket in the US, and although both parties accepted an interim agreement in October, stakeholders have continued to be frustrated with the lack of meaningful information about what is happening. Both parties claim that the terms of the agreement prevent them from making any announcements or revealing any details of what is happening.
The lack of any meaningful information on the moribund USACA website is a further obstacle, and it is unclear how many members of the association will actually attend what could be a lively meeting, assuming that the officers are willing to answer questions from the floor and not fall back behind the legal agreement.
"I encourage all clubs to attend this meeting and ask the tough questions," said Laks Sampath, a director of the North West region and a senior administrator. "This will go a long ways in ensuring people in power are held accountable. Let us not assume answers will not be coming forth. I know in the past things have been a certain way. The optimist in me believes there will be transparency and accountability going forward."
What is also causing anger is that the new USACA committee, still headed by Gladstone Dainty but including representatives of both factions, has yet to name the provisional 30-man squad for the Under-19 World Cup which takes place in Sri Lanka next February. The ICC has released funds to enable the team to prepare, but according to sources, the delay is because of the need to check players' eligibility documents. That, however, does not compare favourably with the other sides taking part in the tournament whose preparations are considerable more advanced.
  • The venue for the meeting is the Hilton Garden Inn, Dallas Fort Worth Airport South, 2001 Valley View Lane, Irving, Texas, United States 75061
