Vaughan staying at Yorkshire

Yorkshire have confirmed that Michael Vaughan will be remaining with the club after rumours that he was searching for another county.

On Tuesday, Vaughan was handed another 12-month central contract which means Yorkshire have avoided a second hefty wage bill after Matthew Hoggard lost his England deal.

"Michael Vaughan will still be a Yorkshire player next season," Stewart Regan, the chief executive, told the Yorkshire Post. "The speculation surrounding his future was nothing more than rumour, he is under contract to Yorkshire and he couldn't have just walked away from the club.

"Michael himself has said that a move wasn't on the horizon and, as far as I'm concerned, there's no reason why he won't be playing for Yorkshire," Regan added. "If anything, we'll be seeing more of him because he'll be expected to get more appearances and runs under his belt in order to get ready for the Ashes."

Vaughan has played three innings for Yorkshire since returning to the side following a break after resigning the England captaincy. His poor form has continued with scores of 10, 0 and 19 but Geoff Miller, the national selector, said that it wasn't a major concern ahead of the winter.

"It's not over-relevant because we know what Michael is capable of doing," he said. "Yes, it would help his cause if he was going on a tour in some kind of form, but we know what he's capable of and I have no hesitation in knowing that he will get through this sticky patch."
