A cricket leadership course, which is designed for sixth form physical education students, forms part of the exciting new Community Cricket initiatives.
The leadership course is a 16-lesson programme comprising of three components; a generic leadership section followed by sections on coaching and umpiring. It has recently been integrated into the physical education curriculum and students can gain three credits towards their National Certificate of Educational Achievement.
The course is delivered by the Canterbury Cricket Association Community Cricket co-ordinators and is run during the winter months. Schools that have already implemented this Course are Christ's College, Catholic Cathedral College, Linwood College and Aranui High School. Any schools that would like to run this course next winter are requested to contact the Canterbury Cricket Association.
Linwood College students are currently working on the programme. They will be coaching the Linwood Avenue School students on Tuesday, August 12 from 11.10am to midday and on Wednesday, August 13 from 9.45 to 10.40am. These coaching sessions will be held at the Linwood Avenue School, opposite the Eastgate McDonald's. Members of the media are welcome to attend either of these sessions.
