Catch of the day
Mushfiqur Rahim was the star of the delivery with which Rubel Hossain completed his hat-trick. Rubel bowled a poor delivery to James Neesham, who looked a little rushed while fending away the delivery, which caught his glove on the way to Mushfiqur. He dived full-length and grabbed it well, having been slightly wrong-footed, to make sure it didn't pop out. Rubel turned eagerly and Enamul Haque raised the finger to give him the milestone.
Turn of the day
It was Anamul Haque's call that Mominul Haque heard to spring out of the non-striker's end for a quick single. But it was Anamul who turned his back after he saw the mid-off fielder swooping to his left. As Anamul turned back, Mominul had to run past him but Anamul beat him to it, and while the third umpire took some time to take the decision, it was clear that Mominul would have to leave without facing a ball.
Surprise of the day
Rain has been a prominent feature during this tour, starting from New Zealand's three-day practice match that was completely washed out, to the two Tests also being interrupted several times. But the rainfall during the first ODI in Dhaka came as a huge surprise. There was no rain in the forecast, but at quarter past seven in the evening, it was pouring.
Dupe of the day
Umpire Ranmore Martinesz was duped in the fifth over during Bangladesh's batting when Brendon McCullum and Tim Southee teamed up to get away with a wide. The ball slipped down the leg side, and with the pair appealing, the umpire decided it wasn't a wide. Replays easily suggested that the ball had made no contact with bat or pad.
Wait of the day
Naeem Islam took a long time to get off the mark, off the 17th ball he faced. By that time, Mushfiqur had reached 21. Naeem's next scoring shot was 12 balls later when he crashed Nathan McCullum through the covers for a boundary. As the crowd got impatient, the concern was whether he would make a big innings out of such a start. He possibly didn't disappoint anyone with his effort in the end.
