WICB to fund U-15 tourney

The 1999 Regional Under-15 cricket tournament will be funded by the West Indies Cricket Board, according to a release from WICB executive secretary Andrew Sealy.

Former sponsor Carib Cement Company Limited has had a change of ownership and the new owners will not be continuing the sponsorship.

Sealy thanked Carib Cement for their sponsorship over the past three years and noted the Board had decided to fund the tournament because it was vital for the region's best young talent to have this competitive experience.

He said the Under-15 tournament was a key facet of the WICB's development programme.

The tournament which will be played at six venues in Guyana from August 11-25 this year with Jamaica's opening game against Trinidad and Tobago at the LBI ground.

The final trial match to select the Jamaica team was held at Alpart Sports Club yesterday.

First round: August 11-12 - Guyana v Leeward Islands Bourda(E.Nicholls, C.Alfred - C.Bagot). Barbados v Windward Islands Everest (C. Duncan, P. Montfort - H. Cunha). T&T v Jamaica LBI(D. Samaroo, R. Ally - B. Haynes).

Second round: August 14-15 - Jamaica v Guyana Everest (D. Balgobin, D. Anandjit - J. Simon). Windward Islands v T&T Uitvlugt (D. Narine, C.Alfred - R. Moakan). Leewards Islands v Barbados Diamond (P. Montfort, B. Haynes - R. Ally).

Third round: August 17-18 - Guyana v Barbados Enmore(C. Duncan, D. Balgobin - H. Cunha). T&T v Leeward Islands LBI(E. Nicholls, R. Moakan - C. Bagot). Windward Islands v Jamaica Bourda(J. Simon, D. Narine - D. Anandjit).

Fourth round: August 21-22 -T&T v Guyana Uitvlugt (D. Samaroo, D. Anankjit - J. Simon). Barbados v Jamaica LBI (C.Bagot, R. Moakan - D. Balgobin). Leewards v Windwards Enmore(B. Haynes, P. Montfort - R. Ally).

Fifth round: August 24-25 - Guyana v Windward Islands Everest (E.Nicholls, P. Montfort - H. Cunha). Jamaica v Leeward Islands Diamond (C. Duncan, C. Bagot - D. Anandjit). Barbados v T&T Bourda(C.Alfred, D. Narine - R. Ally).
