Brian Lara dominated the West Indies batting in the Cable &
Wireless Test series against Australia to such an extent that he
scored nearly three times as many runs as his runner-up.
Glenn McGrath, the man he pipped for the Man-Of-The-Series
award, was also head and shoulders above his Australian bowling
colleagues, capturing more than twice the number of wickets any
of them did.
Lara, who scored three centuries including a highest of 213,
finished the four-match series with 546 runs at an average of
91.00.
Australian captain Steve Waugh accumulated 409 runs at an
average of 58.42.
It was widely acknowledged that Australia batsman Mark Waugh had
a disappointing series. Yet, no other West Indian apart from
Lara matched his aggregate of 202 runs - a stark reminder of the
lack of depth among West Indies batsmen.
