India v Sri Lanka

Wisden's review of the seventh match, India v Sri Lanka

15-Apr-2017
At Mirpur, March 1, 2016 (floodlit). India won by five wickets. Sri Lanka 138-9 (20 overs) (C. K. Kapugedera 30); ‡India 142-5 (19.2 overs) (V. Kohli 56*, Yuvraj Singh 35). MoM: V. Kohli.
Once again, Nehra gave India an early breakthrough - a breach his colleagues soon exploited to reduce Sri Lanka to 57-4. The experienced Chamara Kapugedera, promoted to No. 4, managed 30, though at less than a run a ball, as he and Siriwardene put on 43 for the fifth wicket. Of greater concern to India was Tissara Perera, who hammered 17 from five deliveries - only to be given out from his sixth. Ravichandran Ashwin saw him advancing and bowled an off-side wide, neatly collected by M. S. Dhoni, who removed the bails. The square-leg umpire upheld the appeal without recourse to his off-field colleague; replays showed Perera had regained his ground. India lost their openers cheaply, but Kohli again came to the rescue. He struck 56* off 47 balls, sharing half-century stands with Suresh Raina and Yuvraj, who clattered three sixes. Victory guaranteed India a place in the final, while defending champions Sri Lanka were hanging by a thread.
