New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 2014-15

Wisden's review of the sixth ODI, New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 2014-15

15-Apr-2015
At Dunedin, January 25, 2015. New Zealand won by 120 runs. Toss: New Zealand.
New Zealand claimed the series with a game to spare. As they had been two days earlier, Sri Lanka were crushed under the jackboot of a big stand, although one not quite as brutal or unexpected. Their seamers had started well, removing Brendon McCullum in the second over, but the good work slipped away as Williamson and Taylor took control in conventional fashion. Williamson eased to 97 before being run out in a mix-up which revived memories of the Hamilton epidemic, racing back for two when Taylor had eyes only for a single. Taylor put a mini-slump behind him before an unsuccessful review on 96. Sri Lanka had been angry when Guptill was given not out by umpire Derek Walker to a Prasad delivery which struck him in front, below the knee roll; they were unable to call for a review because the video system was temporarily unavailable. Guptill was out ten overs later, when Walker overturned his own decision on the basis of evidence from Snickometer and Hot Spot. Sangakkara did his bit with 81, but Sri Lanka's middle order continued to struggle against a persistent attack: Anderson enjoyed a fine all-round match, quelling questions about his bowling by snaring four wickets as he attacked the stumps. Vettori contributed eight tight overs as he won his 280th one-day international cap for New Zealand, moving past Stephen Fleming's national record.
Man of the Match: C. J. Anderson.
