West Indies v Ireland, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the second Twenty20 International, West Indies v Ireland, 2013-14

15-Apr-2015
At Kingston, Jamaica, February 21, 2014. Second Twenty20 international: West Indies won by 11 runs. West Indies 96-9 (20 overs) (A. R. Cusack 4-11); ‡Ireland 85-8 (20 overs) (G. C. Wilson 35; D. J. G. Sammy 3-22). MoM: D. J. G. Sammy. MoS: A. R. Cusack. Ireland missed the chance of a first series win against a Test side when a batting collapse undid the heroic work of their bowlers and fielders. The pitch was not as bad as an aggregate of 181 suggested, but for the second game running no West Indian reached 20. Cusack removed the openers before conceding a run, and added two more wickets at a cost of just 11, Ireland's best figures in the format. He was helped by a stunning catch by captain William Porterfield, at backward point, to remove Dwayne Smith; Porterfield then ran out Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy as West Indies crawled to 96 - only the second time they had failed to reach three figures in a full 20 overs. But a cautious start to the reply proved Ireland's downfall and they were 29-5 in the 11th. Gary Wilson produced a lone act of defiance.
