Warwickshire coach Bob Woolmer is to hold talks today with England seamer Ed Giddins over his future. Giddins' current contract ends at the end of this season. There has been speculation that he could move back to his former county Sussex. Giddins played two Tests against Zimbabwe this summer.
Woolmer wants matters to be thrashed as Giddins' financial demands are
considered unrealistic by Warwickshire and he has struggled for fitness this summer.
Giddins has been dropped for the County Championship game against
Middlesex at Lord's which begins today on doubts over his fitness and
attitude. He did not bowl a single delivery on the last day of the
Championship game against Worcestershire at Edgbaston and was left out
of the team against Derbyshire in the National League the next day.
Woolmer, who was under the impression that Giddins was in pain against
Worcestershire and hence didn't bowl said: "I want some honest
answers. What the problem is with him, I'm not quite sure. One minute
he has a sore hamstring, then the next he hasn't." He also said one is
not quite sure if he is going to make the game or not.
"There has been a lot of speculation about Giddins, and although he
isn't going to play against Middlesex I've asked him to turn up on
Tuesday so that he can tell me what exactly is going on", Woolmer
explained.
Woolmer also insisted that Giddins' pay demands should be realistic if he is to stay with Warwicks as there isn't enough money coming into the counties while adding "If Giddins wants to play for Warwickshire then it must be for the right reasons."
