Yorkshire cricket extends to Cyprus

Yorkshire delivered another successful coaching course in Cyprus at the invitation of the British Forces Youth Service and their Cricket Association

Yorkshire delivered another successful coaching course in Cyprus at the invitation of the British Forces Youth Service and their Cricket Association. Flying from RAF Brize Norton to RAF Akrotiri the Yorkshire coaches Steve Foster, Mick Bourke and Mike Sadler led by Yorkshire Cricket Board Development Officer David Tighe were warmly received and enjoyed two weeks of intense activity.
They visited a number of Cypriot schools, tutored an ECB level 1 coaching award course and conducted other courses for junior and senior players during the school half term holidays where 40 of the juniors were presented with ECB proficiency awards certificates. The pupils were of mixed nationality and consisted of Serbs, Greeks, Italians, Americans as well as English and Scots.
The highlight of the trip was a Kwik Cricket tournament which featured on local television.
The invitation followed last years successful expedition when John Pearson, Mike Bore, Ian Dews and David Tighe delivered a coaching course resulting in 18 qualified level one coaches for Cypriot cricket development. So successful has the association been that a further invitation has been issued for Yorkshire to extend their influence to Germany next year.
