South Africa allrounder Wiaan Mulder has withdrawn from a planned spell as Leicestershire's overseas player due to potential international commitments.
Mulder had signed with the expectation of being involved for a full season of County Championship cricket, as well as the 50-over Royal London Cup. However, amid uncertainty over South Africa's upcoming schedule, the deal has been cancelled.
"It is a huge shame that Wiaan won't be joining us but we understand the need for flexibility in the current situation and wish him all the best for the coming months," Leicestershire's head coach, Paul Nixon, said.
South Africa's only confirmed fixtures are ODI and T20I series against Pakistan at home in April, and a trip to play further white-ball games in Ireland in July. However, there have been suggestions of possible tours to West Indies, Sri Lanka and India in the coming months, following postponements related to Covid-19.
Mulder has not played limited-overs cricket for South Africa since 2019 but impressed as part of the Test side recently and is expected to play a key role after recovering from injury problems.
