Haydn Sully, who played for Northamptonshire and Somerset as an offpsinner between 1959 and 1969, has died at a hospital in Exeter after a short illness. He was 67.
Sully was born in Somerset and made his debut in 1959 but left the county after five seasons as he struggled to break into the first team. He moved to Northants where he became a regular in 1965, and in 1966 he took 101 wickets at 21.23, and the following summer chipped in with another 80 and 30.05. But his form slowly fell away, and he retired at the end of 1969 after losing his place in the side. He played a few times for Devon in 1970 and 1971.
Outside cricket he had a successful career working for Whimple-based Whiteways Cyder, going on to become a director with Showering Vine Products.
