Sun TV Network, the new owners of the Hyderabad IPL franchise, have retained 20 players from the terminated Deccan Chargers, meeting the October 31 deadline by when the teams had to announce which players they were giving a contract extension to for the 2013 season, and which players they were releasing. A total of 179 players have been retained by the nine franchises on the same financial terms.

Each franchise has a salary cap of up to $12.5m to spend on their 2013 squad, which can contain a maximum of 33 players, including 11 from overseas. The trading window opens on November 19, when teams will be able to sign uncapped Indian players, including the 52 whose contracts were not extended. From November 1, franchises can re-sign players who they took as temporary replacements in IPL 2012.

I think KKR should have released players like Eoin Morgan, Ryan ten Doeschate and Marchant de Lange. KKR doesn't use them anyways and they just warm the bench. Instead they can provide fireworks for weak teams like PWI and gain some fame. RTD's talent has been wasted by KKR. I feel very sad about that:) I hope he comes in Pune after the next IPL.

I reckon Pune has very smartly discarded their players. Steve Smith to play purely as a batsman wasn't worth it.I know he did well last year but remember Yuvraj is back this year. Clarke has never been a T20 batsman so it was a good decision to let him go. Anyways, Here's my Pune XI for IPL 2013 and believe me you if they field this XI in exactly the same batting order as mentioned below they will win more matches than they have ever won. 1) Luke Wright 2)Manish Pandey 3) Marlon Samuels 4) Yuvraj Singh 5) Angelo Mathews 6) Robin Uthappa 7) Mithun Manhas 8) Wayne Parnell 9) Murali Kartik 10) Ashok Dinda 11) Ashish Nehra. In the above team they are 7 batsman out of which 4 can bowl , 1 bowling allrounder in the form of Parnell and 3 specialist bowlers. A perfect team to win T20 matches. The Real plus is Mathews,Samuels,Yuvraj,Luke Wright all of them are good supporting bowlers apart from being top order batsman. Pune will do well if they can read my comment here and do as mentioned. TC.

i don't understand why pune didn't even give one chance to Tamim and now they have released him. surely a waste of money ! no matter how this guy has under-achieved in t-20 but still he is better than almost all pak batsmen.

Haddin is really not needed in KKR. Also it is time to let go Kallis, as the strike rates of the next two batsman following him also similar, so better get a good Indian batsman, steve smith and if they can also release pathan they can even free up some more stuck up funds to get a bowler like Starc!

  • POSTED BY on | November 2, 2012, 12:47 GMT

bangalore has 4 of the best t20 batsmen in the world....gayle ab kholi and dilshan...my advice take the remainder of money and get sum proper bowling.

  • POSTED BY himohan007 on | November 2, 2012, 12:19 GMT

During IPL 3 MI wanted Ravinder Jadeja. So I think during trading window CSK should trade him for Ojha or some batting talent like S.K.Yadav. I think during during auction they would buy S.Smith because Dhoni always loves having agile fielders in his team.

  • POSTED BY soorya.dhoni on | November 2, 2012, 11:14 GMT

My advice for csk wud be 2 buy starc, baba aparajith, a gud opener maybe like gulam bodi and probably cummins or tsotsobe. starc is a must and they have the money to buy him as well.try 2 buy back dougie as well. remember is heroics in 2010? xcept for jaddu, gud team. try to replace huss as he's 37 or 38

  • POSTED BY himohan007 on | November 2, 2012, 11:01 GMT

@vish57 I think u referring to Chris Gayle. He is seriously under paid when compared to his team mates Tiwary and Spinner Vinay Kumar.

  • POSTED BY squarepeg on | November 2, 2012, 10:12 GMT

Some amazing decisions by KKR. Why keep Ladda who didnt get a single match and can't find place even in Ranji team; and Haddin, when there are two wicketkeeprs in McCullum and Bisla Why did they sign Chirag Jani, Saxena and Sanju Samson last yr and drop this year without a single match. Asst. coach Dahiya's eye for Delhi-Punjab players only. He should try get Venugopal Rao or Rayudu for what KKR needs is a good Indian batsman.

  • POSTED BY on | November 2, 2012, 10:07 GMT

ABHINAV Mukund will be thanking CSK for releasing him. Atleast now he can get a chance to play for any IPL Team.

  • POSTED BY on | November 2, 2012, 10:03 GMT

CSK will definitely going to buy back Bollinger at less price so that they can utilize the saved money to buy another players......... Apart from Bollinger, Dhoni will be eyeing on the following players: Hopes, Starc, Christian, Unadkat, Gony/Pankaj Singh (any 1 of these two), Finch, Perera, Botha, Henriques..........Dhoni likes having allrounders in his team and he wud definitely luk to pick either one or two from these all-rounders: HOPES, CHRISTIAN, BOTHA, PERERA, HENRIQUES...........ONE MORE THING, THE START OF THE AUCTION will be MITCHELL STARC.

  • POSTED BY on | November 2, 2012, 9:08 GMT

i think pune warriors is one of the worst team in ipl , i would say they are just not good enough to play in ipl compettion with these other big hunter team , now they exclude smith tamim will bring down more pain for their owner

  • POSTED BY on | November 2, 2012, 8:52 GMT

i would like to see either doug bracewell or thisara perera in for styris, and bollinger can be replaced for himself only.bollinger is better than hilfenhaus.dont know whts the reason behind his release.he would get high bids from rajasthan and punjab for sure.i would prefer manpreet gony again back to chennai squad in place of yo mahesh.and i would say chennai would go for different players and surprise us..maybe nannes which they missed in the auction last year...i would see pak players back into game after the series they are going to play in december...

  • POSTED BY himohan007 on | November 2, 2012, 7:20 GMT

Guys CSK does not need Perrera. Because they already have Bravo n A.Morkel of simillar type. We need Pattinson or Cummings or Stark type pace bowler who induce fear in opposition batsman. Also attacking opener like Bodi and local spinning allrounder named Aparajith

  • POSTED BY vish57 on | November 2, 2012, 7:18 GMT

It is one sided for teams to release player when value for money for which they were bought is diminished, similarly players should be given option to opt for re auction if they opine their value is more than what they were getting. Mis matches need to be normalised.

  • POSTED BY srinideva on | November 2, 2012, 4:51 GMT

To all CSK fans, the reason for Bollinger exit, might be his behaviourial characteristics.. In 2011 he obstruct the batsman and he seems to not fully commited to this level. CSk is talented and champion team, they have very good standard at every level.I think they have already won 3 Fair play awards.. BTW jadeja inclusion is questionable? they have to go for a fast bowler and a top order batsman...

  • POSTED BY remnant on | November 2, 2012, 4:12 GMT

Of the discarded players the first priority would be the Indian players, I think the likes of Tyagi, Powar, Nayar, Unandkat, Gony ,Pankaj Singh, might get the biggest bids. Among the foreigners, Bollinger, Botha, Thissera, Styris, Steve Smith, Tamim, J Hopes should go for big draw. Being a CSK fan, i would like CSK to get in Bollinger(Not sure why he was dropped of all after being the chief architect of two IPL and one CLT20 wins), Hopes and one Indian pace bowler preferring it to be Unandkat for variety.

Pakistani team will be touring India in Dec and January because normalizing cricket ties between the countries would allow IPL owners to include Pakistani players in their teams. This would increase IPL's TV ratings in a number of countries which in turn would increase the advertising rates at the grounds as well as the value of the TV rights. Perera could come back to CSK. If Albie doean't perform consistently, he would easily fit in to that spot. He is also a better fielder than Albie. Umal Gul for CSK?? When would Mo Amir be available?

  • POSTED BY IndCricFan2013 on | November 2, 2012, 0:46 GMT

GerrardLK may be correct. In 1.2 billion we do not still produce bowlers that we need to perform at a great level.India did top test and ODI tables, own world cup etc, but that is to be expected. SL with less population is able to compete equally with India. But What GerrardLK does not understand is that what 1.2 billion people bring to the cricket. If GerrardLK is able to express what he wants is because of the money that pours in because of Indian cricket fans. The money that CSK pays to Ravi Jedeja is all that Srilanka could spend on their league cricket to under state it. Today, Cricket league is competing with other sports is because of the 1.2 billion people. The survival of cricket as a world sport at the "highest level" is so much depends of 1.2 billion people. Do not forget it.

So they are not considered a wise team. it is premature to know if infact Tamim did not want to go there or not. I am not BD fabatic, and realistically, Tamim has not done much in T20 but had excellent form in ODI which could be nurtured into this format with a wise coach.

Some Indian fans appear to be ruffled by GerrardKL's 2 line comments. Simple answer to his comments is T-20 is anybody's game on the days' play or luck in hitting the right ball at the right place. However inept captaincy & batting of Taylor + sloppy fielding by DD were all crucial factors. To add to the misery, Sehwag's reckless shot to the very first ball of the innings really turned an easily winnable game into a loss. If DD had fielded well to their potential & took all the catches, the opposition would have struggled to a total of <100 runs. Similarly, had Sehwag got going DD would have scored the target in <15 overs with the loss of just 1 or 2 wkts. This was proven in the Final when SS did exactly the same. Actually SS were lucky to win against the Lions on the last ball with 9 wkts. down. DD had beaten the Lions earlier. So if you apply the rule of 3, the IPL's DD should have beaten SS if they reached the Final when you compare the margin of victory of SS & DD over the Lions.

  • POSTED BY on | November 1, 2012, 18:47 GMT

Although CSK has released Bollinger but they will definitely going to get him back at less price and then spend the saved money to buy new players. CSK will be looking to buy 1 more all-rounder, chistian/hopes/botha/perera and one INDIAN fast bowler. The main problem for CSK would be to find an Indian fast bowler as they are left with only 3 options GONY, PANKAJ SINGH & JAIDEV UNADKAT.

Why Mumbai dropped Perera and Pune dropped Ryder,Grame Smith and Steve Smith!!!

  • POSTED BY cricmad81 on | November 1, 2012, 16:45 GMT

Pune w have senselessly let their best players go.Tamim,Nathan mc,steve smith and Jesse ryder.Smith was their best player last yr and has won bbl and CL t20 with the sixers.Nathan mc is a useful bowling allrounder who can play big shots at the end.Tamim is a good opening batsman. The biggest mistake however is letting jesse ryder go.The way he has started the new season in NZ shows that he will have a very big summer ahead of him. Also,he has professional help along with him to keep him away from discretions like he had in the past.Combined cost of these 4 was less than 500k so good luck to PWI to get 4 high quality players at that price.Rajasthan do not even look like a team.Their 2 best players last year were owais shah and botha who have again been released.Problem is RR management just wants to make profit from participating and do not want to be competitive.A flukey win in the 1st edition is all they have to show and their fans can just pray for some good players to turn up.

  • POSTED BY Porky_PigTheToon on | November 1, 2012, 16:44 GMT

@ GerrardLK - When overseas players play for IPL teams they represent Indian teams NOT their respective nations. So calling that DD qualified due to Mahela's(an overseas player)captaincy clearly shows how ignorant you are. Even Aucland Aces were riding on Azhar Mahmood's form (an Overseas player). And as far as quality of our players in concerned let me remind you once again last two CLT20s were won by IPL team(s) :) And in 2010, CSK had won the same tournament on the same difficult pitches of SA where Ashwin and Vijay were the highest wicket-taker and run-getter resp.. :)

  • POSTED BY Porky_PigTheToon on | November 1, 2012, 16:34 GMT

Although I can analyse each team, what they should do / have done but that would take a lot of time so right now I'm just writing about my team DD :P.I hope, they take a good spinner (local talent) in their side - this is the only department where we lack. Feeling sorry for Finch though, he is one of my best Cricketers but he had to go as we already have so many World Class openers in Mahela, Warney Boy, Unmukt* and our own Viru. So happy that they kicked Venu Gopal Rao Hahaha Useless Guy. I just love IPL.

Amit singh and Botha were good too . I think RR are totally dependent on watto , Botha could bat at no 3 This time they should look for quality fast indian bowler and a good indian all-rounder . some foreign talent like thisara parera , steven smith, bollinger , nannes and pakistan players like kamran akmal , shahid afridi or ajmal

Hyderabad need to improve their player local content, Suryakumar Yadav from Mumbai is wasting his time in reserves. He should be given a contract. Similarly U-19 players like Aparajith needs to be brought in as an all rounder + V.Zhol + S.Nadeem. Sanga, Duminy, Steyn & 4th pro need strong local support. Currently S.Dhawan & P.Patel are good local batsmen. Local bowlers are Ishant,Mishra & Reddy. Aparajith is a useful off spinner & will boost both batting & bowling as will Nadeem. Similarly Zhol & Yadav are excellent young batsmen. Last year Hyderabad started badly but towards the end played well & lost by few runs in at least 4 v. close matches. They need to plug in some holes & start winning the close matches. The extra cash available should be spent properly to fill in the missing needs.

@GerrardLK, What point you want to prove by giving Population of India on a site devoted to world cricket? You want to say 1.2 billion people play the game? Then you are mistaken, carrier as sport is non thinkable in India & who says India is not performing at top level? Engineers, doctors, managers, scientists etc. are top performers globally because most of the population of India is concentrating there….. As far as CLT20 is concern…Cpt. Meanster already answered you.

  • POSTED BY on | November 1, 2012, 15:27 GMT

It looks like MI have decided that they don't want to win even the next IPL....Retaining Sachin Tendulkar makes no sense in T20. He insists on blocking an opener's slot for himself & gives his team only 1 of 2 options - Option 1 - Sachin falls early, following batsmen have to deal with the pressure of an early wicket fallen. Option 2 - Sachin hangs around, striking between 80 & 110, playing out about 40 - 50 balls which can become more than 30% of the team's quota of balls, scoring about 20% of the runs his side would need in those balls...following batsmen have to deal the the pressure of a low run-rate. MI's middle order therefore will require miracles to win, all the time.

  • POSTED BY QingdaoXI on | November 1, 2012, 15:26 GMT

So Hyderabad team has good chance to buy Venugopal Rao (Good Middle order Batsmen and Local Talent) , Abhinav Mukund (Left hand opening batsmen), Abhishek Nayar (All Rounder) Vikas Mishra (Left arm spinner), Avishkar Salvi (Medium Pace), Jaydev Unadkat (Left-arm pacer), Ramesh Powar (Off-spinner) and may be reserve wk in CM Gautam. This will make there team more competetive than before. Dhawan, Mukund, Jamshed (New Buy), Venugopal Rao, Duminy, Nayar, Mishra, Steyn, Ishant, Ajmal (New Buy). They will became competetive team. Mumbai Should buy Tamim Iqbal, Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder and Starc. Chennai should go with Cummins and Gony, Punjab should go with Nazir, Junaid, Shoaib Mallik, Thisarra Perrera, Philander and Rajasthan should go with Razzaq, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Tanvir and Pune should try to retain Smith and buy Henriques, Hazelwood.

  • POSTED BY Cpt.Meanster on | November 1, 2012, 14:57 GMT

There is no use of keeping TOO many bench warmers. It's appalling to see players of the class of Scotty Styris, and talent of David Warner warm benches. I think each squad should only have 5 overseas players. That way, there is no dilemma for the captain to pick his 4 overseas pros. Also, an overseas players must NOT captain a team. It affects the team balance BIG TIME. ONLY Indians should captain IPL teams.

No need to bash IPL again after their failure in CLT20. CSK and MI were champions in previous two years. You can't win all the time. Just because they pay a lot of money for the players in IPL doesn't mean they are the best. Other countries also have their own franchises with foreign players and they are equally competitive.

  • POSTED BY Cpt.Meanster on | November 1, 2012, 14:43 GMT

@GerrardLK: Don't you have anything positive to say about Indian cricket. We have MANY good things about our cricket and players.
