Kevon Cooper, the Rajasthan Royals allrounder, has suffered a knee fracture and will be out of action for four to five weeks. Cooper, the leading wicket-taker for the Royals this season, was injured while fielding during the game against Delhi Daredevils on April 29. Rahul Dravid, Royals' captain, said that losing Cooper is unfortunate for the team.
"He has come in as a young kid and performed exceptionally well and done some difficult jobs for us," Dravid said.
Cooper, who was playing his first season in the IPL, had a dream debut as he picked up four wickets and slammed a first-ball six in the game against Kings XI Punjab. He played six games and totalled ten wickets at an economy rate of 7.25. He was bought by the Royals in this years' auction for $50,000.

southpaw, mate, don't take this the wrong way but I think Cooper probably plays at a slightly higher intensity of workload than you might do. As a result the shearing forces acting on his knee joint MIGHT just require more tensile strength from his ACL. Also, as sachin_vvsfan indicated , sometimes a knee injury can include a meniscal tear, or a strain of one of the collateral ligaments, both bad news for the pounding a knee sustains in bowling. However, he has one thing on his side......he is still very young and should heal quickly. ......And for the Champions League...Barath, Simmons, Bravo, Bravo, Pollard, Ramdin, Cooper, Rampaul, Badree, Narine, Mohammed. This is in fact the exact 11 that won the WI T20 competition a few months ago. Good luck to all others.....
Posted by prakhar24 on (May 2, 2012, 17:40 GMT)This is very bad for RR Cooper was performing well with bat and ball. Now Watson will be key for the RR. RD and Rahane should continue opening.
Posted by crikbuff on (May 2, 2012, 17:32 GMT)One more victim of IPL. How many more careers will IPL destroy?
Posted by anton111 on (May 2, 2012, 13:40 GMT)Pollard, Bravo, Narine and Cooper. The IPL has seen what the Trinidad cricketers can do. But the IPL has not seen Lendl Simmons who is an aggressive opening batsman and useful medium pace bowler who can keep wicket if required. He has performed consistently for both TT and the WI. Look out for him when TT play in the champions league later this year. Look out also for Rampaul and Daren Bravo.
Posted by sachin_vvsfan on (May 2, 2012, 12:42 GMT)Knee Injuries!! Scares me a lot. Destroyed the careers of Flintoff, vaughn etc. I am yet to recover from my knee injury (Grade 1 meniscus tear) that occured 6 monts ago Hope his franchise provide him all the support he needs. @suko99 It actually happened to malinga and in his own words" The franchise took care of me well when my own SL board dejected me and not included in central contract"
Posted by satish619chandar on (May 2, 2012, 11:04 GMT)Very bad.. he was good while he lasted.. Luckily for RR, it happens at time when another all rounder arrived to maintain the team balance..
Posted by SouthPaw on (May 2, 2012, 10:54 GMT)@riverlime: I broke my patella and damaged my ACL January 13 (Friday!) this year, but I am back in action since end March even though I am all of 50 years! So Kevon should not have any problems if he follows his rehab program strictly.
Posted by cric_freakNo2 on (May 2, 2012, 8:24 GMT)Lost one gained one . RR is not so unlucky
Posted by riverlime on (May 2, 2012, 6:31 GMT)His recovery depends ENTIRELY on whether or not the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is torn. If it is, he will have to give up on bowling. Also , if the Fracture line runs into the joint space, or if he mobilises on it too soon, it may not heal well. I wish him well, since he looks to be a promising cricketer and a likable fellow.
Posted by awesomemantra on (May 2, 2012, 0:59 GMT)That's too bad he was playing well and bowling really well for RR . Hope it's not too serious . Will be good once he gets back into action .
