Netherlands named two new players - allrounder Logan van Beek and Tom Heggelman - in their squad of 15 for the World T20 while Timm van der Gugten made a comeback. The three were the only changes from the squad that featured in the World T20 Qualifiers in 2013, replacing Daan van Bunge, who made himself unavailable, Atse Buurman and Paul Meekeren.
Van Beek was in the New Zealand squad for the Under-19 World Cup in 2010. He represents Canterbury in New Zealand's domestic cricket and has played 19 T20s. He is the grandson of former Test cricketer Sammy Guillen who represented both West Indies and New Zealand.
27-year-old Heggelman has international experience under his belt - of five ODIs - but has not made his international T20 debut yet.
Van der Gugten, who has played four ODIs and six T20Is, last played an ODI in August 2013 against Canada, in the ICC World Cricket League Championship. In his last T20 for Netherlands, against Bangladesh in 2012, Van der Gugten took three wickets in four overs and scored 12 vital runs to steer his team to a one-wicket win.
After qualifying for the World T20 last year, Netherlands had lost their ODI status after disappointing performances in the 2015 World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand.
Peter Borren will lead the squad again and Anton Roux will coach the team. This will be Netherlands' second appearance in the World T20. They had featured in the 2009 edition too, and had beaten England in the opening match of the tournament by four wickets.
Netherlands squad: Peter Borren (capt), Wesley Barresi , Logan van Beek, Mudassar Bukhari , Ben Cooper, Tim Gruijters , Timm van der Gugten, Tom Heggelman , Vivian Kingma, Ahsan Malik, Stephan Myburgh, Michael Rippon, Pieter Seelaar , Michael Swart, Eric Szwarczynski.
