Suresh Raina will lead a second-string India squad for the ODI tri-series in Zimbabwe and the Twenty20s which follow, with Virat Kohli as his deputy. Among the first-choice players who are either rested or injured are regular captain MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Praveen Kumar.

The selection committee's decision to leave out experienced players provides an opportunity for youngsters to get a taste of international cricket. Those getting a look-in include seamers Pankaj Singh and Ashok Dinda, and Madhya Pradesh wicketkeeper Naman Ojha.

Dinda did reasonably well in the IPL, picking nine wickets in seven games, at an economy rate of 6.56, and Pankaj grabbed the limited opportunities he got with Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is the first call-up for Naman Ojha, whose 377 runs in the IPL was one of the silver linings of Rajasthan Royals' disappointing campaign.

Three Indian spinners who had outstanding IPL campaigns - legspinner Amit Mishra, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha and offspinner R Ashwin - have also been picked. Legspinner Piyush Chawla, who was chosen ahead of all three for the World Twenty20, is not part of the one-day side but will join the squad for the Twenty20s.

The tri-series, also involving Sri Lanka, kicks off in Bulawayo on May 28, with the Twenty20s on June 12th and 13th.

Squad: M Vijay, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Suresh Raina (capt), Virat Kohli (vice-capt), Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Ashok Dinda, Pankaj Singh, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, Naman Ojha

Note: Piyush Chawla will join the squad for the Twenty20s.

I have no idea what is srikanth up to. He could not manage his career well and screwing up other cricketers careers. Those who have been watching cricket for a while know that Uthappa is a far better than one time wonder M Vijay. This is pure politics. SRIKANTH. Please visualise how nice it would be win the world cup in 2011. If you really want, please give chance to uthappa, rayudu and other talented cricketers.

I am really unhappy Srikanth's selection policy.. Robi Uthappa should have been give a chance ahead of Murali Vijay & Dinesh Karthic given his recent IPL Form & internation experience. He has good pull shots and can hook the ball. He is a better player than M. Vijay. Players like Vijay are good only in sub continent/ slow pictces where ball is not bouncing enuf. He should have got chance atleast against Zimbabwe/England A. I feel that grat injustice has happened against Robin Uthappa.

Don't understand how M Vijay has retained his spot in the Indian Cricket Team? We have seen his game for a long time now. He is now where near to be an international cricketer. One thing is sure, untill Srikkanth is chariman of national selection committee, inspite of many failures, Vijay will be compulsorily included in the Indian Team!!! Srikkanth is partisan on selecting Tamil Nadu players only, who are not talented enough to make a cut into the Indian Team. Next Tamil Nadu player who will make into the Indian Team is Aniruddha Srikkanth!!! I bet this will happen soon...

Where are Uthappa and Badrinath? Atleast now, they should be given a chance. And what is Jadeja doing?

In my belief, India should have selected a bunch of players who are potential future stars and need exposure beyond the subcontinent. Would have loved to see Sehwag in charge of Raina though.

I guess the combination should have been Openers: Sehwag (Capt.) and Manish Pandey Middle Order: Suresh Raina (Vice Captain), Rohit Sharma, Saurabh Tiwary, Manoj Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu AllRounders: Yusuf Pathan, Abhishek Nayar Wicketkeeper: Naman Ojha Seamers: Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun and Siddharth Trivedi Spinners: Pragyan Ojha and Ravichandran Ashwin

Saurabh Tiwari, Ambati Rayudu, Pandey and pujara are all in the india A squad which is going to england for a tour of 3 test matches and 5 odis and robin uttappa is injured.

Uthappa and Irfan should have been included instead of Yusuf and Jadeja.
