Toss Ireland chose to bat vs Bangladesh
Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie decided to bat after winning the toss against Bangladesh in the first Test in Sylhet.
There were debutants from both sides. Bangladesh have handed a Test cap to left-arm spinner Hasan Murad, who comes with 83 wickets in 30 first-class matches. Ireland have given debuts to allrounder Jordan Neill and batter Cade Carmichael. At 19 years and 253 days, Neill becomes Ireland's youngest Test debutant. He is slated to bat at No. 6, while Carmichael, his senior at 23 years old, will bat at No. 3.
The two sides have previously met just once in red-ball cricket, with Bangladesh winning that game by three wickets.
