Unicorns blitz past Super Kings as Short and Allen fifties top du Plessis' 100

It was San Francisco Unicorns' fourth win in four games, and Texas Super Kings' first defeat in MLC 2025

San Francisco Unicorns 202 for 3 (Allen 78, Short 61, Fraser-McGurk 37, Milne 1-24) beat Texas Super Kings 198 for 5 (Du Plessis 100, Mukkamalla 38, Bartlett 2-31, Rauf 2-34) by seven wickets
Faf du Plessis slammed a 51-ball 100, but he had to do it alone, pretty much, for Texas Super Kings. That was the difference between Super Kings and San Francisco Unicorns on the day, since Unicorns had two men doing it, doing it at well over a-run-a-ball, and doing it for long enough. The quick half-centuries Matthew Short and Finn Allen hit were not only enough to take Unicorns over the line in a chase of 199, but get there with 23 balls in hand. The win kept them at the top of the MLC 2025 table with four wins in four, with Super Kings one spot below after their first loss.
Super Kings were asked to bat, and du Plessis had two big partnerships for the first two wickets, but he had to contribute exactly 100 runs to those, which added up to 166. In the first stand, of 97, Devon Conway was unusually slow, scoring 23 in 23. In the second, worth 69, Saiteja Mukkamalla did better than Conway had, contributing 38 to du Plessis' 30, though they went at roughly the same strike rate.

Brits slams career-best 98* as West Indies go down in first T20I

There was little resistance from West Indies in the first T20I after Tazmin Brits led South Africa to 183 for 6

South Africa 183 for 6 (Brits 98*, Claxton 3-39) beat West Indies 133 for 6 (Glasgow 53*, Kapp 2-27) by 50 runs
Tazmin Brits slammed a career-best 98 not out, off just 63 balls, to lead South Africa to a 50-run win in the opening T20I against West Indies in Cave Hill on Friday. There was little resistance from West Indies with either the ball or the bat, though two individual efforts stood out: Jahzara Claxton's three top-order wickets and Jannillea Glasgow's 53 not out from 44 balls in the second half of the chase, but it was far too little.
Asked to bat, South Africa lost captain Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp to Claxton inside five overs, and finished the powerplay on 44 for 2, but Brits and Nadine de Klerk were already starting to go fast. The two brought up a 71-run stand for the third wicket in just over six overs, Brits very much the aggressor, scoring 42 of the runs in that partnership.

Moores, Montgomery inflict rare defeat on Northamptonshire

Notts remain in quarter-finals contention with comfortable victory at Wantage Road

Nottinghamshire 164 for 8 (Moores 53, Procter 2-26) beat Northamptonshire 140 (Zaib 37, Montgomery 3-22) by 24 runs
Tom Moores smashed 53 off just 27 balls to help set up a 24-run Vitality Blast victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Wantage Road.
Moores struck five fours and three sixes to regain the initiative for the Outlaws after they made just 33 for 2 in the powerplay. He shared a 43-run partnership with Jack Haynes (32) in five overs. However, the visitors were still well behind the pace on 111 for 5 after 16 overs before Moores blazed 20 off one over from Luke Procter and, with three of the lower order each smashing a six, Nottinghamshire closed on a competitive 164 for 8.

Payne the hero with bat and ball as Gloucestershire seal low-scorer

Hampshire scrap hard in defence of 124 but come up short against veteran seamer

Gloucestershire 130 for 8 (Short 49, Howell 2-22) beat Hampshire 124 for 9 (Payne 3-20) by two wickets
David Payne deployed all his considerable experience to propel Gloucestershire to a dramatic two-wicket victory over Hampshire Hawks in a low-scoring but memorable Vitality Blast contest at the Seat Unique Stadium.
Chasing a modest 125 to win and buoyed by D'Arcy Short's 41-ball 49, Gloucestershire were cruising at 112 for 4 in the 16th, only to then lose four wickets for the addition of 11 runs to set-up a nerve-jangling finale. With the scores level, Payne kept his composure to lift the final ball, bowled by Chris Wood, over long-on for an astonishing last-gasp match-winning six.

Will Jacks' 97 leads Surrey to fifth win in a row

Chris Jordan left the field apparently concussed after a heavy fall attempting a catch

Surrey 194 for 8 (Jacks 97, Helm 3-48) beat Middlesex 119 (Higgins 27, Williamson 26, Santner 3-25) by 75 runs
Will Jacks' scintillating 97 led Surrey to a fifth win in a row as they thrashed London neighbours Middlesex by 75 runs at the Kia Oval.
The England allrounder, not required for Test duty against India, nevertheless reminded the selectors of his batting prowess, pummelling five sixes and 10 fours in a 56-ball masterclass. Noah Cornwell and Ryan Higgins were the pick of the Middlesex attack with two wickets apiece.
