David Byas, who lost his job when Chris Adams was appointed director of cricket at Yorkshire earlier this week, is still deciding whether his future lies with the county.
It is the second time that Byas has been snubbed by Yorkshire, after internal politics forced him to retire from the game having led them to the County Championship title in 2001.
The county have offered him a new role as director of cricket development.
Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan said: "He's still thinking about it and wants to consider the personal implications, but he has not dismissed it, hopefully we can get him to stay with the club".
Byas would have nothing to do with the first team in his new position, but Regan believes he would have a lot to offer in his new capacity: "David will have a massive role in bringing through the pipeline all the talent from schools and the Academy."
Byas returned to the county as head coach in 2004, after a brief spell with Roses rivals Lancashire, but Yorkshire struggled in the Championship last season, only escaping relegation in their final match
