A four-for from Tim Southee in the second innings helped bowl Wellington out for 58, setting up a 395-run win for Northern Districts in Hamilton. Set a mammoth 454 for victory, Wellington lost wickets right from the off, with only two batsmen reaching double-digit scores. Six players were dismissed for ducks, as the team was bundled out in 26.1 overs. Southee collected 4 for 18, taking his match haul to seven, while Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi and Graeme Aldridge chipped in with two scalps each.
Northern Districts, batting first, had earlier posted 223 in their first innings. Most of their top and middle-order batsmen made starts, but only BJ Watling (60) was able to convert it into a fifty, as they were pegged back by regular blows from Brent Arnel (4 for 55) and Matt McEwan (3 for 44). Wellington, though, could only manage 117 in their reply, as no batsman could contribute more than 24. Boult was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 37.
Northern Districts then further enforced their advantage, as a century from Daniel Flynn (112), coupled with half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell (76) and Watling (61) lifted the team to 347 for 6, after which they declared.
