Kenya 237 for 8 (Tikolo 54, Obuya 58, Javed 2-35) beat UAE 227 (Arshad 61, Saqib 59, Tikolo 4-31) by 10 runs
Kenya moved to a 3-0 lead in their one-day series against United Arab Emirates, Steve Tikolo once again starring with bat and ball as the hosts sealed a 10-run win at the Mombasa Sports Club ground. Tikolo shared in a 63-run stand for the third wicket with Collins Obuya, both batsmen passing fifty as Kenya reached 237 for 8, and then ran through UAE's lower order with four cheap wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 227.
Tikolo played a similarly commanding allround role in Kenya's six-wicket victory in the first match of this series, and once again proved his worth after captain Jimmy Kamande opted to bat first. Arriving at the crease after David Obuya and Alex Obanda had been removed cheaply, Tikolo launced a counter-attack in partnership with Collins Obuya to wrest back the initiative.
Cracking three fours and a six, he had eased past fifty in quick time before being caught behind off medium-pacer Amjad Javed for 54. Obuya also scored at a rapid rate, making 58 from 67 balls before he became left-arm spinner Ahmed Raza's first victim. Tanmay Mishra picked up where they left off, racing to a run-a-ball 39, and was ably assisted by Ragheb Aga's boundary-laden 43 before a couple of late wickets stemmed Kenya's charge at the death.
Arshad Ali, UAE's captain, launched the chase with gusto and dominated a 53-run opening stand. Lacing ten fours in his 61 he added 63 for the third wicket with Saqib Ali, who contributed an adventurous half-century of his own. But when Arshad was run out by Tikolo and Saqib was bowled by left-arm spinner Hiren Varaiya the pressure soon began to tell on UAE's lower middle order.
Nos. 5 to 8 were all dismissed for between 13 and 18 as the required rate began to climb, Tikolo doing the bulk of the damage in a spell of nerveless offspin. The last four wickets fell for just 21 as UAE's chase unravelled, and with just one game remaining the visitors now have only pride to play for when the sides meet at the same ground on Saturday.
