Australia clinch the series 2-1 Mooney gets to fifty with a cut to backward point for four
IND Women vs AUS Women, 3rd T20I at Navi Mumbai,IND v AUS (W), Jan 09 2024 - Match Result
AUS Women won by 7 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
That's it from us today. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. I am Srinidhi signing off on behalf of Sreshth, Thilak and Sudarshanan. Stay hydrated and take care!
Alyssa Healy is the Player of the Series: "I am not sure if I deserve this. Our bowlers did a great job. Phoebe Litchfield also. When you are chasing a total, if you quickly get the target to run-a-ball, it's better. That's my job to get the run rate down. The last two games have been clinical. Happy with that. (on bowling) It's probably the first time in a while that we have used just five bowlers when we have eight. Full credit to them, I am still learning the captaincy, they make my job easier. Really lucky to have a bunch of people who know what they are doing. We have a big year ahead, with South Africa series coming up. And then I am back here in India for WPL."
Annabel Sutherland is the Player of the Match: "A complete performance for the group to finish off the T20 series win. We reviewed the first game and identified areas, really proud of the girls for what they did in second and third. Practised a lot of back of hand deliveries, just backed myself to read the conditions. It's important in T20 to find ways to make the batter think differently especially when we have small boundaries and dew."
Harmanpreet Kaur: "Last one month, we played good cricket. Aussies played white ball better than us. In the red-ball cricket, we know we have time and to analyse, in white-ball we have to be on our toes. We need to be quick. We will go back and work on certain areas. In the first T20, fielding set the tone, we were not up to the mark in the last two. After this break we will work on our fitness and fielding and come back stronger. Youngsters have been great, whenever they are getting opportunities they are going 100 percent. I think we always give fight. They also know that. I am proud of my team, they [Australia] are experienced team and their experienced players play big roles. This is something we need to learn from them."
Beth Mooney: "Tight game. Healy did a great work. Our bowlers did a fantastic job. We certainly have one eye on the World Cup in Bangladesh. The batting group had a chat before the game, trying to be best and pretty much that's what we saw today. Understanding that the longer you bat, the easier it gets is important. Hopefully I can get some runs against South Africa. We just wanted to understand the conditions at DY, it's a tough one. Lucky that coin went in our side. I am feeling old, certainly relishing my days, Phoebe and Belsy (Sutherland) have been great. Some guys back home are recovering from injuries as well, we will be a force to reckon with come August/September."
10.07pm: After winning the one-off Test, India have now lost both the ODI and T20I series, with just two wins from six white-ball games. The hosts will have more questions than answers with no international games scheduled in the next few months ahead of the T20 World Cup later in the year, in Bangladesh. They will also their captain finds her feet sooner than later.
To recap this T20I, the likes of Shafali and Ghosh took India to a decent 147 for 6 after being asked to bat first. Sutherland and Wareham once again sharing four wickets between them. Australia were untroubled for the majority part of the chase, with Mooney and Healy hitting fifties and sharing a 85-run opening stand to blunt India. Vastrakar's two wickets in two balls gave India some hope but Litchfield's late cameo took the visitors home.
