full and angled full on off, squeezed to cover.
Heat vs Sixers, 26th Match at Sydney, Jan 10 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That brings us to the end of our BBL coverage today. Hope you enjoyed it. Until next time, it's goodbye from here. Cheers!
Relief writ large on the faces of the Brisbane Heat players. This is the first time in BBL history that they've beaten Sydney Sixers. And they've managed to do it despite dropping a number of catches. With the bat, they were a little lackadaisical too after Joe Burns and Lendl Simmons. Heat are out of contention, but Sydney, who needed a win badly here, slide further. They need to win and hope for other results to go their way. Unenviable position to be in.
Joe Burns is the Man of the Match for top-scoring with 60. "We wanted to win it for the fans and string up a few good performances, it's nice to have done that today. Our batting has been good all season, Lynn's been fantastic but the others have chipped in too. We're at our strongest at the back end of the tournament. We need to find a style of play that works, particularly at the Gabba. Not sure why it's taken us so long to beat them. They have a good bowling attack. Guys like Brett Lee and Josh Hazlewood have been good for them back home in Brisbane, we haven't played them much here."
Sydney's chase was alive as long as Brad Haddin was there, but once he fell, there was a feeling of inevitability, even though Johan Botha came up with a few lusty blows.
full toss on middle, he swings across the line, picks the bones out of that one, deposited over deep backward square. Poor ball, had to be put away and he did it easily
how inventive is that? Full toss on leg, he changes the bat grip, gets down on one knee, takes it on the full and reverse paddles it over short third man
chinese cut this time, the ball rolls off the thick inside edge and between his legs to fine leg
swing and a miss. Another slower one that slants across, fails to get his bat on that wild swing
high full toss on middle, mistimes the swing down to long off, went off the toe end
wild swing across the line to the slower one outside off, misses
goes straight down the ground, it was another slower ball, picked it off the hand, hit it pretty well but Joe Burns holds on at long off. Nearly over-ran but recovered to take it well.
right into the blockhole, he backs away and squeezes it to deep cover
hit hard to long-off, flat throw prevents the second
slower and fuller outside off, blasted over cover to the boundary rider
length ball angling away, hit into the gap at deep cover, they scamper back for the second
slower one on off, looks to go over long on, Reardon runs in, does all the hard work in getting to the ball, but drops it. Easy chance, but it bobbles out as he was on the move. Poor effort. No excuses for missing that
top edges a pull that flies into the fine leg boundary. Got big on him but he swung through
looks to slog across the line, another slower ball, takes a thick outside edge that is gleefully accepted by the keeper. Bit of grip on the surface did the trick there
floated full outside off, hit hard to the cover fielder at the edge of the ring
the slower ball on off flies off the outside edge to Swepson who takes a superb catch diving to his right at short third man. Good chance of pace, Haddin looked to go over cover, ended up slicing it and the youngster took an excellent catch. Hasn't he redeemed himself after that drop?
mistimes a flat hit back to the bowler, deflects off his hand towards mid off
Big three overs coming up for the Sixers. They need a win to stay in contention
angles a full length delivery outside off, fails to connect that attempted squeeze behind point
punched back to the bowler
