low full toss at shin height on off slapped straight to extra cover. Brief fumble by Colin Ingram. Relay to the non-striker's stumps from his knees hits direct off a bounce. Did they make the run????!!?!! Steketee's bat popped up in the air on the dive trying to complete the single and the umpire deems it bounced up before it was grounded across the line! OUT! Hurricanes win by one run!
Hurricanes vs Heat, 20th Match at Brisbane, BBL, Dec 30 2020 - Ball by Ball Commentary
So Hurricanes escape with full points from the match but Keemo Paul injured a hamstring and it's unclear if he'll miss any extended time. There's one more BBL match remaining in 2020. Can it top this from today? Come back tomorrow to find out. That's all from us for now. Take care!
Hobart Hurricanes captain Peter Handscomb: "The nerves were shaky at the end but to have someone as experienced as Scott Boland... I couldn't tell if that bat was over the line or if it was up. The boys were all telling me about the super over which I didn't know about. But then they said it was out. So, happy days."
They've finally shown a replay from down the crease line. Despite some ambiguity in the moment itself when the replay wasn't shown, it's 100% clear the bat never crossed the line grounded before it popped up at the moment the ball hit the stumps.
Brisbane Heat captain Jimmy Peirson: "What a game of cricket. To come down to the last ball and decided by a runout... I was quite confident in the last over. [Peirson has just seen a replay clearly showing the bat bouncing up before crossing the line] That's fair enough then."
9.58 pm What drama in the final over. Spectacular work from Boland defending six runs in the last over to steal an improbable win. Mujeeb's five-for in the first innings goes to waste and he's been named Player of the Match in a losing effort. The only replay shown on that final ball runout came from deep on the boundary at cover. There was never a replay shown down the line of the crease. It was ambiguous whether or not the bat was grounded on the line or past the line before it bounced up in the air but Darren Lehmann is not happy. He only has his batsmen to blame though. They got off to a horrendous start in the Powerplay. Needing six runs in the 10th over to seal the Bash Boost Point, they only managed four runs off D'Arcy Short's spin and it was a harbinger of things to come at the death. Needing seven to win in the 20th, they only managed five.
Two to win, one to tie off the final ball for the super over.
another slower length ball on the stumps, this time Steketee is able to keep his hands back and pull this in the gap between long on and deep midwicket for a pair.
4 off 2 now...
slower length ball on fifth stump at 110 kph fools Steketee and he toe drags this back to Boland.
knee high full toss on off, flicks this past fine leg again to deep backward square, Tim David who covers the ground well to deny a second once again.
length ball on middle, Steketee backs away to heave through the leg side for one.
Mustafa Moudi: "Hurricanes would have won this match long ago, had Handscomb given Completed Short and Parker's overs in the Middle. The same Short who had earned a Bash Boost Point for them by successfully defending 6 Runs in the 10th Over could have earned them the 3 Points as well !!"
low full toss on the legs, flicks this past short fine leg but deep backward square charges right to deny the second.
Boland comes in around the stumps.
Ellis really only missed on one ball in the over, but it brought about a desperately needed six runs for Bazley and the Heat. 7 off the final over now to win. One more mistake from Boland is all it will take for the Heat to get over the line.
wide yorker again, Steketee can't get it away.
wide yorker well inside the guidelines this time, no doubt about it as Steketee plays over the top of a drive.
wide yorker, deemed too wide by the umpire though. Harsh call. Looked to pass just on or inside the guideline.
wide yorker again on fifth stump, scuffs this along the ground to deep midwicket.
tried for a trio of wide yorkers but gets the length wrong, doesn't pitch this and it winds up as a knee high full toss heaved high and deep into the second row of the upper deck over midwicket.
wide yorker defeats Bazley once more.
Ellis on the money with a wide yorker, can't get this away.
The last two balls dramatically swing momentum back to the Heat. Now just 15 off 12 to win and Bazley on strike.
length ball on middle, backs away from leg stump to carve this over cover, beats the sweeper to the boundary.
attempted yorker on middle stump, gets the length wrong though and it's hammered straight back down the pitch through Meredith's legs and races through mid-off to the rope.
length ball on fourth stump, goes back to tap this into midwicket.
slower length ball follows Steketee backing away from leg, top edges a pull over backward square leg.
back of a length on middle at 147 kph, Steketee hops back from leg stump to guide this to backward point.
length ball on middle at 148 kph, flubs a pull along the ground to long-on.
Danish's question is answered. Meredith brought back for the 18th.
back of a length outside off, Steketee slaps this high over cover, cut off by the sweeper for a pair.
