Azam Khan says, why worry, when I am around! Length ball on middle and leg. He backs away and lofts him straight back. Over long-on and GAW continue their winning streak.
Trinbago vs Amazon, 19th Match at Port of Spain, CPL 2023, Sep 05 2023 - Match Result
Amazon won by 6 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)
Excellent game of cricket that ends with Amazon Warriors continuing their winning streak. Knight Riders will be back tomorrow trying to get one up over Barbados Royals. And I will be back to bring to you all the updates from the game. Till then, this is Ashish Pant, signing off on behalf of Binoy George. Ciao!
Imran Tahir: Fantastic game. Happy to be on the winning side. Boys played very well. We wanted to improve ourselves from the previous game. The openers did a great job. He [Ayub] is talented and that's why we got him. He did really well. Nice to get him some big runs. Shai is the best player in world cricket at the moment. And he showed why. He [Azam Khan] is very energetic and he takes some great catches. Great victory in front of such a big crowd.
Kieron Pollard: You try different things, Akeal did a fantastic job. We know his capabilities and he played a fantastic innings. Not concerned, one loss is not going to make us concerned. Nothing is a concern. These guys are great. It's a hectic week for us, we can't cry and lick our wounds. Just have to come back. Couldn't get over the line. It is about understanding where we are as a team. We will come back in less than 24 hours and hope to get better.
Saim Ayub is the Player of the Match: I am enjoying because the team environment is very good. All our friendly, Caribbean environment is great. I just try to enjoy every bit of my cricket. The batters were great. The team is believing in me and this is just the start. I have learnt a lot from him [Shai Hope]. That partnership was crucial.
10.40pm Guyana Amazon Warriors make it four out of four and move to the top of the table with a confident six-wicket win. The win was set-up by the second-wicket stand of 93 off 67 between Saim Ayub and Shai Hope. Ayub, in particular, deserves special praise. He slammed 62 off 43 with four fours and four sixes, while Hope did his bit with a 40-ball 51. Azam Khan then finished things spanking an unbeaten 29 off 14. There were plenty of dropped catches from TKR who weren't up to their best today. GAW remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
Afeef: "TKR shouldn't have lost this match, especially at their home ground. GAW are just on fire."
Equation: GAW need four to seal the deal. But funnier things have happened in T20 cricket. Can TKR pull a rabbit out of the hat? Azam will want to finish things off first ball. Russell time
Low full toss outside off, bunted to short extra cover
Romario Shepherd in now
Not done yet? Hetmyer wanted to seal it with a six, but can't quite latch on. Low full on middle and leg. He clears his front leg eyeing the deep midwicket fence, but gets it off the bottom of the bat. Pooran does the rest
On a length just on off, he drags it to deep midwicket for a run
Another bouncer outside off, Azam wanted to finish off with a six. Makes no connection.
Around the wicket
Dropped at deep backward square leg, this time by Hosein. Banged in short. Hetmyer mistimes his pull, as Hosein gets across. But he can't quite latch on.
Hetmyer is in a tearing hurry! Length ball right in his arc on off. He clears his front leg and thumps it over straight over the bowler's head. Gun-barrel straight and isn't Hetmyer ecstatic.
Run a ball needed now
Length ball just outside off, he gets it to short third and is sent back
Quicker into his pads, hits him on the thigh pads with the ball rolling close to the stumps
Into orbit! Length ball just outside off. Azam bends down loiw, and absolutely smokes the slog sweep over deep midwicket
Deft touch and Azam has manipulated the field so well here. Quicker outside off, he opens the face of the bat and gets it past short third with nonchalance
Quicker on the pads, he works it to deep backward square leg
Drags it down first up outside off. He goes deep and hammers it in the gap between deep midwicket and long on
Amazon Warriors need 27 off 18. Narine to finish off his quota.
Fuller outside off, he pushes to wide long on with soft hands.
Bouncer now, but that was a touch too high. Hetmyer sways outside the line of that.
Back of a length ball outside off, he stabs at it and misses. Huge appeal for caught behind, not given.
Shimron Hetmyer in now. Goes over the wicket now, does Ali
Miscues and long off runs it to complete a good catch. That angle from around the wicket does the trick for Ali. Length ball outside off, Hope was looking to go squarer I suspect. But ends up slicing it towards long off where the sub-fielder kept his composure running in
Goes full again but that was too wide outside off. Reload.
Fuller outside off, he digs it through covers for a run
Fuller well outside off, he looks for his favourite sweep again, but that was a touch too full for that shot
