TOTAL55 Ov (RR: 3.03, 243 Mins)167
Fall of wickets: 1-5 (Nick Compton, 2.2 ov), 2-18 (Alastair Cook, 10.2 ov), 3-18 (Kevin Pietersen, 10.3 ov), 4-64 (Ian Bell, 24.1 ov), 5-71 (Joe Root, 27.4 ov), 6-108 (Matt Prior, 38.5 ov), 7-109 (Jonathan Trott, 40.2 ov), 8-119 (Stuart Broad, 42.2 ov), 9-166 (Steven Finn, 53.3 ov), 10-167 (James Anderson, 54.6 ov)
2.2 to NRD Compton, off stump delivery and plays on! He was late on the stroke and the ball has cannoned off the bottom of the bat into the off stump, early blow for Southee. Didn't quite get far enough forward considering the low bounce from that full length. It took the inside half of the toe of the bat and bounced low into off stump. 5/1
27.4 to JE Root, edged and taken at third slip and that is a good delivery, banged it back of a length and Root dabbled at it and got a big edge that was well taken. Sliding across the right-hander, Root couldn't get his bat inside the line in time, should have left it. 71/5
10.2 to AN Cook, short and wide and Cook slaps it straight to point. A very poor stroke and Cook has gifted away his wicket having received a big let off in the previous over. He didn't get over the stroke, it perhaps got a little big on Cook, who, eager to alleviate the pressure, thrashed it square of the wicket but to point at shoulder height who took an easy catch. 18/2
10.3 to KP Pietersen, full and straight, swinging in and plumb lbw! Pietersen gets a first-baller. What a delivery from Wager. Pietersen was so late on that, late inswing, Pietersen couldn't get the bat across in time and is trapped bang in front of all three. 18/3
24.1 to IR Bell, full and driven and caught at short extra-cover and Bell, who had been playing so nicely, has popped up a catch, falling into the trap and the recovery is stymied by another loose stroke. Innocuous length ball on off stump, Bell is forward to drive and timed it well but in the air and Ruherford held his second catch of the morning, this time on the juggle a little but he grabbed it. 64/4
53.3 to ST Finn, but Finn will score no more because he has pulled to deep square leg attempting another heave over the leg side. Again not the smartest cricket but a tailender can be forgiven for taking the field on again just as the man had been moved to the rope, got this pull off a top edge, beaten for pace and it was an easy catch for the man running in. 166/9
38.5 to MJ Prior, back to cut and chips it to point and another poor stroke sees another wicket fall. Prior rocked back to try and play aggressively again from just outside off stump, back of a length, but got it off a top edge straight to the fielder at point who couldn't drop it. A first Test wicket for Martin but a bit of a gift. 108/6
40.2 to IJL Trott, swept at, straight up in the air and taken at short long leg, a good catch running in by Boult diving forward. Trott was trying to play towards the vacant area at deep square leg but top edged a ball that was probably too full to sweep. 109/7
42.2 to SCJ Broad, and Broad promptly pulls directly to the man on the rope that is a shocker. Half-tracker pulled like catching practise to the deep fielder. Could have slogged it anywhere but found the fielder with perfection, a sorry tale for England this. 119/8
54.6 to JM Anderson, down the wicket, a huge swing and an outside edge to point and that completes a miserable effort from England. Perhaps understandably, Anderson trying to go after a few runs but got done by a little slider that totally threw him of course, he swung himself off his feet and produced an easy catch. 167/10

Did not bat:
Fall of wickets: 1-158 (Peter Fulton, 50.5 ov), 2-249 (Kane Williamson, 73.4 ov), 3-267 (Hamish Rutherford, 80.1 ov), 4-310 (Ross Taylor, 90.1 ov), 5-321 (Dean Brownlie, 92.6 ov), 6-326 (BJ Watling, 93.4 ov), 7-370 (Tim Southee, 99.6 ov), 8-447 (Brendon McCullum, 113.1 ov), 9-460 (Bruce Martin, 116.4 ov)
50.5 to PG Fulton, full delivery, driven at, inside edge and taken low by Prior Fulton didn't really move his feet there. It might have shaped back a touch but Fulton wasn't forward as he should have been, drove loosely outside the delivery and got a thin under edge that was taken well by Prior diving forward, a good take. 158/1
80.1 to HD Rutherford, and it does the trick straight away as Rutherford chips a catch to midwicket ending a wonderful debut innings. It was an innocuous length ball on leg stump that he went to turn into the leg side but it seemed to stop on him a little and he popped up an easy chance straight to the fielder. 267/3
90.1 to LRPL Taylor, a flirt outside off, another edge and this time it finds second slip. Anderson screams his delight. Taylor reached out to cut a ball probably too full for the stroke without moving his feet and got an edge to Trott who gobbled the simple chance. Anderson is mighty relieved. 310/4
92.6 to DG Brownlie, played on and Anderson has another, poor foot movement again the downfall of the batsman. This time it was Brownlie trying to play from the crease and dragging a length ball that shaped in a little from just outside off into his middle and off stumps. 321/5
116.4 to BP Martin, short outside off, swung at edged and taken behind and New Zealand have declared. Tried to fetch it to leg and was late on it, getting a top edge and Prior took an easy catch but well played Martin. 460/9
93.4 to BJ Watling, left alone and bowled him! A tight off stump line and that is very poor judgement, came off the front pad onto the off stump and...Broad has a Test wicket! That has been a long time coming. It was a ball angled into the off stump and Watling simply had not play and decided not to. 326/6
99.6 to TG Southee, full on off stump, swing and a miss and Southee is clean bowled, falling to a wild swing aiming over mid on. Pushed back by the short ball, he decided to have another crack at the full ball, missed completely and back went the off stump. 370/7
113.1 to BB McCullum, but not any more, a heave from a length ball goes straight up in the air and Anderson claims a fine catch at midwicket. He was aiming over the leg side but put it miles into the air, Anderson had an age to wait for it to come down but he held on well. 447/8
73.4 to KS Williamson, done him with the slider and Williamson clean bowled. He was trying to play square on the off side but got the line all wrong, it went straight on from just outside off stump and beat Williamson's back foot drive and into middle and off stumps. Poor judgement from Williamson who knew it wasn't turning. 249/2

Fall of wickets: 1-231 (Alastair Cook, 84.5 ov), 2-265 (Nick Compton, 103.1 ov), 3-355 (Jonathan Trott, 132.6 ov), 4-367 (Kevin Pietersen, 140.5 ov), 5-386 (Steven Finn, 152.4 ov), 6-390 (Joe Root, 153.6 ov)
84.5 to AN Cook, pushes at this outside off and edged and taken, so New Zealand do take something with them to the close, Cook might have been able to leave it but tried to play towards the covers off the back foot and got a decent edge low to Watling's left who claimed a good catch with two hands diving forward. 231/1
103.1 to NRD Compton, full, Compton gets outside the line, struck on the pad, big shout and given out lbw. read the line all wrong their Compton. That didn't really swing, Compton just, for some reason having batted for so long, got too off side of it and couldn't get the bat down in time, caught in front of middle and leg. 265/2
132.6 to IJL Trott, leading edge and taken by the bowler a very good grab jumping high to his right with one hand. Misjudgment from Trott, trying to work a back of a length ball on off stump to leg, he played across it and it came off a leading edge and nearly evaded Wagner until he leapt and took a good catch. 355/3
140.5 to KP Pietersen, length ball, Pietersen plays across it and nicks it behind! Wagner's got him again. Another failure for Pietersen who played a long way away from his body and got a thin inside edge aiming towards midwicket but it was a nothing shot. 367/4
152.4 to ST Finn, Finn slogs sweep and misses and is trapped in front what a poor way to go after such resolute defence, a great effort as nightwatchman. Just another straight ball but Finn decided to try and whack it over the leg side, a very unusual choice given we're just back after tea, missed completely, he was in front of middle. 386/5
