and Pietersen goes to fifty, taking England to a win, with a fabulous pull for six
England vs Scotland, at Nottingham, Jun 02 2009 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Well England are home by six wickets, but by no means was this a particularly impressive or elegant win. Scotland fought really hard; Majid Haq bowled a lovely spell with his offspin, and there were useful contributions from Colin Smith and Kyle Coetzer with the bat. In the end, Scotland didn't have quite enough runs to play with, but they've done themselves proud nevertheless. Do join us tomorrow for the next round of warm-ups, including England's match against the West Indies. Well, they haven't played them for at least a week, have we? Join us then.
So then. Two to win
Terrific to see Morgan happy to bat so inventively, as he's done for Middlesex
he steers this almost into the hands of short third man, but it's just short
awesome from Morgan! A reverse-sweep-flick past short third man for four - electric batting
bang! A flat-batted smash just over the bowler's and umpire's head - surprising power for a small man
Pietersen drives but rather mistimes it to long-on
that's a good stroke. A whip off his hip to midwicket
13 from the last two overs
Pietersen attempts something outrageous - a Morgan-style flip over the wicketkeeper's head - but it's much too full and he's forced into a French-cricket style defence
13 from 13
hammered back to Stander who fields brilliantly in his follow-through
down the leg side - wrong line from Stander really. Morgan just tucks it off his hip
down the leg side - an attempted yorker
nudges this to leg - Morgan is so quick and already realises Pietersen wants two and almost overtakes him in the process
short, wide delivery which Pietersen slaps powerfully just wide of cover for four
Here comes Jan Stander. His brother, By, is also a useful cricketer, and he has a sister called Innocent.
very good, straight delivery on middle stump which Morgan defends on the front foot, exaggerating the lack of bounce in the pitch
flipped to leg for another single
on his legs, Morgan just tucks it for a single
England are playing West Indies tomorrow. "Oh good," says Bumble. "Not seen them for a week."
good bowling, this - short, forcing Pietersen to pull it for only a single
pushed to mid-off for a single
shot! That's what Morgan is known for - a cheeky flick over the vacant fine leg for four. Superb invention
Good, tight stuff from Drummond
Morgan again chops down on it, placing it out to the off side
stroked out to the off side
