that's a blinder from Tare at backward point. It was short and angling away, Dhoni unfurled his wrists to play a fierce cut. The ball was dying on Tare but he kept his eyes on the ball and his reflex action took him nice and low as he pulled off a wonderful catch. Nehra has won the battle of the veterans here. It was hit really, really hard
SRH vs Supergiants, 22nd match at Hyderabad, Apr 26 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Supergiants won by 34 runs (D/L method)
Right, that brings us to the end of our coverage tonight. Hope you enjoyed it. Do join us on Thursday when Delhi Daredevils host Gujarat Lions. It's a top-of-the-table clash, which you don't want to miss. Until then, it's goodbye from all of us here. Cheers!
MS Dhoni: We weren't in the midfield, so this win was important in that sense. There are quite a few teams with four points, so we had to get there. We didn't factor in the rain, we thought it wouldn't. We wanted to bowl first because the wicket stays good right through the 40 overs. The bowlers exploited the conditions well. All the fast bowlers hit the right length, and Ashwin was also able to bowl the way he normally does. If you don't get wickets upfront, batsmen have license to hit any over. So in that sense, it was a good game overall. Fielding isn't something we're great at, but we need some luck. There are a few average to slow fielders in the side, which means we may have to score extra 10-15 runs. Today, the ball went to the good fielders.
Sai: "Kane Williamson for Tare and Yuvraj for Morgan could be a solid team for SRH."
Vamsi: "Excluding the fact that the chasing team is winning, the second part of the IPL season will be interesting because of strong teams like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore being behind in points. No clear favorites for top3 positions, I bet. "
Ashok Dinda is the Player of the Match for his burst of 3 for 23 on debut for Rising Pune Supergiants.
David Warner: This wasn't what we expected. We made it look like they bowled well. The boys tried hard. When you lose wickets in clumps, it's tough to build momentum. We have two more games at home here coming up to try and bounce back. Yuvraj and Kane Williamson are close to returning. We'll see what the selectors say. We're glad to have the support of the crowd that turns up in huge numbers here.
12:05am The umpires are having a chat with David Warner. They're calling Dhoni over. Tom Moody isn't happy, and he's involved in an animated chat. But surely the decision wasn't a tough one. A couple of minutes later they have decided, finally. It's called off. Supergiants have pulled one back courtesy their bowlers. Ashok Dinda, called in to play his first game this season, did the damage upfront, while R Ashwin was equally effective in his fou overs. Shikhar Dhawan held one end up, but Sunrisers needed someone to bat alongside to get to 135-140 to make a match of it. Once they didn't, it was a cakewalk for the visitors, who rode piggyback on sprightly knocks by Faf du Plessis and Steven Smith to chase this down.
Amitabha Saha: "Toss is becoming very vital to the outcome of the game. A suggestion to improve that could be, to let the home team decide what they want to do. That way, each team has an equal opportunity to decide whether they want to bat or bowl." Did you mean to say away team, as Srashta points out?
Suraj: "@Amitabha: Rather than the home team, I guess the visiting team should be given the choice, to mitigate the home team advantage!"
12:00am Covers firmly in place. The Sunrisers boys are playing sepak takraw. Doesn't look like we'll have a resumption. Game set and match to the Supergiants, by the looks of it. As comprehensive as a performance can get from a unit that was under pressure.
11:48pm The intensity of the rain has increased. They're running off the field. Supergiants are 34 ahead of the DLS par score The umpires can wait till 12:15am before awarding the game to the Supergiants. While we wait for the rain to stop, here's a quick poll. Your pick for Man of the Match? Or is it too straightforward? My choice: Dinda
Huge cheer as Dhoni takes strike again
punched wide of Warner at cover
wonder why he's continuing to stick to that leg side line. Smith hops across to tickle it fine, the ball deflects off the thigh pad and into the fine leg boundary. Nehra went up in an appeal, but the bounce saved Smith
hops back into the crease ad bunts it to the off side
starting to drizle again
short and down leg, nearly called wide, he shuffled across though
Vamsi: "What exactly is Saurabh Tiwary's role in this side. He was considered a big hitter in the previous seasons but now it doesn't seem to be the case" Your guess is as good as mine. With the depth they have got, they're better off playing a bowler
turned to midwicket, Dhoni wanted the run but there was loud call of 'nooooooo' from Smith
poor start to a new spell, floats the length ball down leg
another whip, this time Hooda comes around quickly to keep it down to a single
flicked past the diving midwicket fielder, Hooda had some work to do in order to get to the ball from deep square. Risky from Smith, but the confidence shines through
too full and outside off, gets a bit of swing away, carved to third man
gets forward to go over cover, got it off the bottom of the bat this time, jammed back to the bowler
slip in place, so what? Walks down the pitch and hammers the length ball over mid-on, one bounce into the boundary. He wants to finish this off soon, no doubt about it
MS Dhoni walks out to a loud cheer. Doesn't matter if SRH is down and out. They wouldn't mind being treated to a couple of big hits now, surely.
extra bounce has done the trick. This was a length ball on middle, it nipped away off the seam, Faf looked to run it down to third man but the extra bounce meant a feather off the shoulder through to Naman Ojha. He's done his job though. Something to cheer for the crowd, but they know it's a little too late
Dhaval: "With Amit Mishra in the tank, SRH bowling was strongest among all teams. NOw it looks like, in a square 3 corners super solid but 1 corner is leaking. hence, its not able to hold liquid (runs) inside."
wrists the length ball from off stump to midwicket
stands tall and then angles it down to Nehra at third man, can't prevent the second. Tad slow, but understandable considering he's coming back from an injury
DYNAMIC: "I think biggest blunder SRH Did was when they didn't retained Amit Misra and retained Karan Sharma on his one season performance"
why would you want to test the bounce on this surface at 130kph? Way over Smith's head, Ojha sticks his right hand out to take the pace off the ball
length ball outside off, driven on the up towards sweeper cover, excellent running between the wickets. Smith was always in it for the second
Prasanna Kumar : "The defeat of SRH in this fashion will definitely have an impact on their NRR and it might help the Mumbai Indians to move up by one place. Fingers Crossed."
flicked from outside off towards long-on
whipped off his hip to Bipul at deep square leg
bunts a short ball to point
Bhuvneshwar back into the attack
