length ball, goes for the reverse hit! Misses, and it's all over. MICT win by 33 runs!
MI Cape Town vs Royals, 6th Match at Cape Town, SA20, Jan 13 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
9.18pm: Let's hear from the players at the presentation, starting with Player of the Match Kagiso Rabada: "Joe Root's a fantastic player but I'm claiming that as a nick-off down leg. Every game I play I try my best, hopefully more often than not it comes off. [Mentoring younger bowlers?] I try to instill them with positivity and get them to back themselves. You want youngsters to be free and take pressure off them. I try to do that in whatever way."
Royals captain David Miller: "Very disappointed, the way the guys batted at the end was encouraging, the opening pair gave us a start but in the middle, it wasn't our greatest night. We'll have chat, it comes down to execution. The guys know what to do, we need to take risks at some stage but not our best night. We thought it was a par score and we could have chased it down. Needed someone to hang in there and make the right calls."
MICT's Rashid Khan: "Brilliant win, we haven't had many at home. So a special night. After the powerplay, the way they batted, it was brilliant from the bowlers. Something I love about this team is the hunger. That gives you something special as a captain. [Hendricks] So happy with the way he played, those are the expectations we have, a classical player setting it up for the big hitters. [Leaky opening over?] There were a few bad deliveries, but I found my area and tried my best to keep it there and keep the pressure on."
And that's a wrap from Newlands for tonight. Tomorrow is a double-header day, with Centurion and Durban hosting matches. Be sure to join us for those... Bye!
9.10pm: So that is a second win from three for MICT, and their first in front of the home crowd at Newlands. They go top of the early standings. Reeza Hendricks helped set the foundation with 59 off 37, before Kagiso Rabada's two wicket maidens in the powerplay derailed Royals after a fast start. George Linde claimed his best SA20 figures as the chase fell apart, although Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Kwena Maphaka did at least show enough moxy down the order to deny MICT the bonus point that was theirs for the taking
full and straight, clipped through mid-on
pitched up and pushed through mid-off, easy does it. So MICT won't quite take all the spoils on offer tonight
MICT need three dots or a wicket now
full, wide and slammed! Four more to Kwena the Wonder! Brings Royals level with the magic 137 mark
kaboomed over long-on! Maphaka brings Royals within a hit of denying MICT the bonus! Rashid was there himself going for the catch but couldn't hold it in his fingertips as he slid into the rope
fullish outside off, chopped for a single
Delano Potgieter is to bowl the final over
length on the stumps, chopped to backward point. The throw to the non-striker's is errant and they sneak one
full, 137kph and tailing back, just misses off stump as Ngidi swings and misses
I think MICT need to keep Royals to 137 or lower for a bonus point...
full on leg stump, squeezed out through midwicket
hard length, 134kph, shovelled leg side for one
Lungi Ngidi is last man
off stump flattened! Azmatullah does the job, eventually. Low full toss and it tails in late past Mujeeb's lusty swing across the line, splatting the woodwork at around shin height. After some handy defiance, the ninth-wicket stand is broken
Smashed for six more! Azmat bowls a half-tracker and Mujeeb stays still, swings freely, and lands another on the grass banks!
and now he thrives... hoyed over deep midwicket! Clears the front leg and blitzes a slog, 83 metres into the crowd, where the catch goes begging!
swing and a miss, but again Maphaka survives!
back of a length outside off, another change-up. Swatted for one. Mujeeb has surpassed his highest T20 score
another slower-ball bouncer, this balloons through above the swing
pace off, flapped to backward point
misses the yorker, blazed over extra cover! Mujeeb is playing like AB here. Holds the pose as he makes room and clumps KG beyond the ropes
Rabada. Three to come
flung down full and straight, Mujeeb again calmly works it away to the leg side
full on the stumps, 123kph and thick-edged to fine leg
