The series is level! Murali traps Mason with a fullish one. New Zealand are shot out for their second lowest score ever. 74 was that mark and now they have been bundled out, for one run less, by swing of Vaas, pace of Malinga and the guile of Murali. It was tossed up, full, on middle and leg stump line, Mason has a swing across the line and is trapped. It would have hit the leg stump. The series is alive and all to play for in the Tuesday's decider.
New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, 4th ODI at Auckland, Jan 06 2007 - Ball by Ball Commentary
So that's it then. All over in a blink. First Jayasuriya climbed all over New Zealand bowlers with a manic 70. If the bowlers thought they had got out of the slaughter house after Jayasuriya's fall, their batsmen were thrown into one. One by one, they surrendered. Vaas harassed them with swing. He would keep taking it away before bending one back in to trap them in front. Maling gunned for the toes and throats and Murali too joined in the carnage to wrap up a series-levelling win for Sri Lanka.
This is Sriram Veera, your commentator for the day, signing off. Join George Binoy on January 9th for the decider.
'Ray' stings with.: "The infamous JB rotation policy seems to be working well...I wonder how the out-of-form Stephen Fleming now feels about his break from the game?"
doosra, on the offstump line, turns away, Mason is beaten trying to sweep
slower one, but drifts down the legside, and it runs away for a legbye
The bails are off. At the non-striker's end though. Nice drive, off a fullish delivery, down the track, Malinga stretches his right hand out, gets a touch and it hits the stumps on the other side. McMillan is inside his crease. No harm done
goes for the ribs, swatted away to the on side. Well played
Ball hit the bat. Banged in short, Mason recoils, brings his bat across, horizontally, and the ball crashes into the top half of the bat and drops down on the offside
The left foot doesn't come across at all. Good move. The bat comes down, makes contact and the ball rolls away to cover
146 kmph, full delivery on the off and middle, hint of in swing, driven, with a short-back lift, to cover. The crowd cheer!
Jayawardene sees Mason on strike and brings back Malinga. The camera pans to Mason, no emotion there, looks gritty and focussed.
from round the stumps for this delivery, on the middle stump line, swept away for a single. Mason will retain the strike. Hmm...
slip, sillypoint and short-leg in place
rips across a flattish and quickish offbreak on the offstump line, Mason drives, is beaten and it bobs away off the pads
on the middle and leg, padded away
Murali joins in the carnage. Big offbreak, lands well outside the offstump, short in length, Patel sees the line and the length and shapes to cut. Mistake. The ball rips in and keeps a touch low, and thuds into the middle stump.
short, pushed back to the bowler
short of length, it rises above waist-high... towards point
again, steered to point
full and straight on the off and middle, pushed to cover
full and on the legs, McMillan accepts the gift, tickles it around the corner
full and straight, on the middle stump, worked to midwicket region
