finishes with a moose down the ground for six! Full toss from Milnes and Patel just bludgeons it over long-on - Rockets win by six wickets, with room to spare in the end
Fire vs Rockets, 20th Match at Cardiff, Men's Hundred, Aug 06 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Rockets won by 6 wickets (with 10 balls remaining)
9.45pm: Never write off Samit, folks. Although I'm sure you weren't going to make that mistake. Rockets take a step closer to the knockouts, Fire have slipped off the pace after winning their opening two. There's another couple of games tomorrow, and we'll of course be back gagging for more. For now, from myself, PDP and Raghav, it's good night. Cheerio!
9.40pm: Classy stuff from Samit "Slam it" Patel, whose 46 from 20 balls iced a potentially tricky chase. Had Payne's dismissal of Gregory stood, things might have been interesting, with 25 still needed from 15... but the no-ball just brought the target closer, and Patel finished it in style. Wahab Riaz's four-for played an important part, too, as Rockets win their fourth match out of five and go top of the table
Samit Patel is the Hero of the Match: "It was pretty good, we restricted them really well [with the ball]. The batters got off to a good start and we kept going. Play strong shots and be positive. [Timeout plan?] We knew we'd target the ten balls from this end and try to kill the game, worked well. Good to get some momentum and go four from five."
pitched up straight and heaved through square leg
goes full and wide at 87mph, but this one is into the tramlines for another wide
attempted slower ball, but sprayed wide of the cut strip
full, wide and smoked through extra cover! Milnes goes around the park and this chase is almost done
picked up and deposited over deep square! Slower ball, I think, but Gregory sets himself, fetched into the leg side
low full toss, Gregory carts it down the ground, Neesham doing well to get around from long-on
Milnes now, 21 needed from 15. Still not in the bag
gets the yorker in, 87mph but swished away through midwicket for a couple
Free hit coming, too. Once the pitch invader has been dealt with
Payne hits his mark, bowled through the legs! Nope, a no-ball is being signalled... Oh dear, Payne's elation is short-lived. Pitched up in the blockhole and it completely rearranged Gregory's furniture. But he'd overstepped by a fair way
full, 86mph and Patel biffs it back down the ground, long-on comes around
tip-toes out and nails this over cow corner! Short ball, makes him hit to the square boundary, but Samit connects beautifully with it, sailing well beyond the rope
back of a length, 76mph cutter from Payne and it spins and dips through to Banton as Patel swipes and misses
over the wicket and fired wide of the stumps, carted for one through midwicket
Payne returns, 33 needed from 20
Fire take their strategic timeout, this one could be going right to the wire
fired in full, heaves an inside edge through the leg side
short again, cutting his fingers over it, sails past Gregory's right shoulder as he attempts to pull. Maybe should have been wide on height
another slower bumper, loops up wide of the stumps, Patel swings and misses... Banton fumbles and they steal one
shortish on the body and whipped away leg side
short outside off, pace off and Patel plays a tennis forehand through point
Milnes returns, don't think we'll be seeing the Neesh again
Tight stuff from the leggie, finishes with 2 for 23
looped outside off, goes for the big hit down the ground... comes off the inside edge into the pads
flighted, Gregory goes low, sweeps in front of square this time
