Pakistan win the first Test by 9 wickets. The West Indian players shake hands with the batsmen and the umpires as they head to the pavilion. The Pakistan players come out from the dressing room and shake hands with the West Indian team.
The tale of the Test: West Indies winning the toss and batting first were dismissed for 206 runs, Lara top scored with 61 runs. Umar Gul picked up 5 wickets for Pakistan, he was well supported by Shahid Nazir and Danish Kaneria. In reply, Pakistan scored 485 runs, a lead of 279 runs, Hafeez at the top played well and then Yousuf scoring 192 was well supported by Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal. For West Indies Taylor picked up 4 wickets, Dave Mohammad too bowled well for his 3 wickets.
West Indies in the second innings fought hard, Lara played well once again for his 122, he and Chanderpaul were involved in a partnership of 137 runs for the fifth wicket. Chanderpaul scored 81. It was not enough for West Indies. Again Umar Gul bowled well for his 4 wickets, he picked up 9 wickets for the match. Pakistan just needed 13 runs to win. They won by 9 wickets.
