pretty full on middle, opens the face and drives to deep cover. There's a mix-up between the wickets and that is that. Jemimah swoops down on the ball and catches Strano short
10.25pm Riding on Poonam Yadav's sublime control and wrong'uns, India have toppled defending champions Australia to open the T20 World Cup in front of 13,432 spectators, comfortably a record for a standalone women's match in Australia. Hope you enjoyed our coverage as much as we did bringing is to you. This is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Alex Malcolm and Venkat Raghav.
Harmanpreet Kaur, India captain: This is a great feeling to win the first game of the tournament. We knew this track is something where we can do well. If we can get to 140, we thought the bowlers can do the job. This track wasn't easy to bat on - the partnership between Jemi and Deepti was crucial for us. I'm happy we got 130 and that was something with which our bowlers can do well. A bowler like Poonam is someone who leads from the front. We were expecting a great comeback from her. Our team is looking nice, earlier we depended on two-three players.
Meg Lanning, Australia captain: They started off well and put us under the pump. At the halfway mark, 133 to chase, we thought we did well. It was consistent bounce, there was a little bit, we thought of playing straight….I think the lack of partnerships in the middle (what went wrong?) India bowled extremely well and thoroughly deserved the win.
10.15pm Poonam Yadav, Player of the Match: Thanks to her physio and team-mates and family and friends for helping her recover from injury. This is the third time I'm missing a hat-trick, but thanks to my physio and team-mates I've recovered. Hopefully, I get a hat-trick in the future.
Simon: "Some atrocious shot selection by Aus to waste a great bowling performance. They need to get their heads right fast or it will be a short tournament. "
Suyog: "Well played girls. Poonam, you are the star. Hattricks do need a share of luck, you will get one in future, no worries. Congrats to you."
Ramasamy: "Also, tremendous control by Indian bowlers. No wides, just 2 extras in the 20 overs. "
Alan : "good to see Aussies preparing low and slow wickets...seriously why make India feel at home"
shuffles across off and drags a single wide of midwicket
rahul: "in the context of the game, Verma and Sharma's innings along with Yadav bowling is where India will win the contest"
off-stump yorker, dug back to Pandey
Schutt is the No.11
full-toss on off, not above the waistline, surprises Gardner, she splices it high into the air. Pandey runs in from her followthrough and grabs the return catch
Vivek Rajendran: "Isn't she no:10 by the way.?!" --- Oh well, of course
full and swerving away outside off, Strano eyes up the leg side, swipes....and the ball settles into the gloves of Bhatia. India think they have their woman. Caught behind? Okay, replaces indicate that the ball bounced just in front of the keeper. Gardner is back on strike
Australia need 21 off the last over to pull off a coup
skidder outside off, Gardner swishes and misses, No.11 will be on strike for the start of the last over
dug in short on off, Gardner steps back, lines it up and smokes it behind square for four. Middles the pull and finds the fence
down the track and muscled to deep midwicket. Gardner chances a second, Jemimah swoops down on the ball from the outfield and throws it flat and hard to Sharma, who tips the bails off at the non-striker's end to catch Kimmince short
another swing and a miss, this is tossed slower and away from Gardner's swinging arc
Gardner shimmies out, darted into the thigh, she misses the big swipe
speared on off, down the track and swung away towards long-on
reverse-swept from the stumps to point. Poonam Yadav, picked ahead of Radha Yadav, finishes with 4 for 19
21.7 Ball bouncing more than once, rolling along the ground or pitching off the pitch
The umpire shall call and signal No ball if a ball which he/she considers to have been delivered, without having previously touched bat or person of the striker,
- bounces more than once or rolls along the ground before it reaches the popping crease
down the track, takes a full-toss and crashes it down to long-on
slower, shorter, chopped to the covers
free-hit, dragged to square leg off a bottom edge
what was that? Grubber, bounces twice, sneaks through the legs and rattles the timber. Gardner hangs on and chats to the umpire. Since it bounced twice before reaching the crease, it is a no-ball
shorter and quicker, cracked off the back foot, but can't pierce the tightly packed off-side infield
tossed up liberally and breaks away outside off, powered down to long-off
Balu: "I am not at all comparing... I just reminding that bishnoi also created web around batsmen in U19 and now poonam is creating web around batters in W T20 WC... Always poonam is poonam... due respect to her
full and wide again, swish and a miss outside off
drilled down to long-off
