The series victory appeared to be for the taking for India when they put up 358 in Mohali, but Australia stunned the hosts with 13 balls to spare. Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb set the platform, before Ashton Turner, playing only his second ODI, sealed the win with a 43-ball 84 not-out.

India were poor in the field, and boos were heard in Mohali. There were even chants of "Dhoni, Dhoni" after Rishabh Pant missed a stumping.
