Rohit v Harbhajan - The stump-mic tales

Initially, it sounded like some sort of random sledging going on, Rohit Sharma's voice in the stump mic calling Harbhajan Singh's name, asking the veteran spinner to get out of the commentary box and come make use of the rough on the pitch.
It was all in good humour between the old Mumbai Indians colleagues, of course. And Harbhajan responded during an in-game show on Star Sports, first with a dialogue from popular Hindi film Munnabhai MBBS and then, acknowledging Rohit, who had bowled a bit of offspin on the day and had mimicked Harbhajan's bowling action on the field, with a run-in-and-deliver. Lots of laughs were had all around.

Guess who bought Ben Stokes' painting?

After the summer he's had, everybody wants a piece of Ben Stokes - including the man who partnered him during the crucial final moments of the thrilling chase at Headingley against Australia. Perhaps Jack Leach wants to commit his strokes to memory?

We're always here for throwback photos of cricketers: (from left) very youthful-looking Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid and Vijay Dahiya. An 18-year-old Yuvraj made a splash in his very first innings for India, smashing 84 off 80 balls against Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie in the ICC Knockout Trophy in Nairobi in 2000.

Ryan ten Doeschate is sorry he beat Kohli and Babar

How would you feel if someone lumped you with, say, Virat Kohli and Babar Azam? Flattered? Er... apologetic? Netherlands' Ryan ten Doeschate plumped for the latter, as a modest but cheeky aw-shucks at his ODI batting average being higher than Kohli's and Babar's. Can you say GOAT*?

Kohli surprised Tests are the real deal

What's that sound you just heard? Someone moaning about the death of Test cricket in our shrinking-attention-span era? Take them to Visakhapatnam, and make them have a look at the packed press conference room that greeted Virat Kohli ahead of the first Test between India and South Africa.
Kohli walked in, looked at the number of mics and dictaphones in front of him, turned towards the BCCI media manager, and wondered, in surprise, where all this crowd was when India played three T20Is before this. Test cricket's the real deal, Virat. You know it.

Joe Root is now Doctor Root

Joe Root was recently at the University of Wolverhampton where, after a tour of the campus and some coaching session with students, he came away with… a doctorate. That's right, the university conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Sport on him, which means he's now Dr Root (which makes us wonder if he ever considered a career in dentistry). What will he aim for next, a knighthood?

Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali's match made in heaven

All 53 of Hasan Ali's ODIs for Pakistan have featured Shadab Khan. So, when Hasan was ruled out of the home series against Sri Lanka, Shadab was asked how it felt to play without his best bud. Shadab laughed and said: "We're friends, yes, but you're making it sound like we're husband and wife."
Hmm, we're not so sure about the friendship bit either, based on how badly they did in this ICC quiz about each other.

Michael Holding's dinner with Shahid Afridi

As international cricket slowly returns to Pakistan, we hope to see photos of more such scrumptious feasts. In an interview earlier this year, Michael Holding told us his favourite food was curry goat and rice, so we're pretty sure he enjoyed this dinner.
These photographs were taken in Afridi's basement - we know this because of a home tour video he posted on YouTube last week in which he shows off cricket memorabilia he's collected over the years, including signed jerseys from several of his favourite opponents and the bat with which he made the fastest ODI century (it was Sachin Tendulkar's bat).

A crowd catch a year in the making

If at first you don't succeed try, try again (even if it takes a year). A spectator in the crowd at St Kilda, watching the Marsh Cup match between Queensland and Victoria, took an excellent catch when Usman Khawaja deposited a six onto the bank at deep midwicket. It then emerged that almost exactly a year ago he had missed a chance when Marcus Harris clobbered a six in the same direction. Redemption was sweet.
