Dinesh Karthik is an attractive batsman to watch when in full flow, and he was at his stylish best when he picked Praveen Kumar for a six over fine leg. He charged out to Praveen in the fifth over, picked the length and swung him with a swivel flat into the stands. Among all sixes struck in the Mumbai Indians innings, Karthik's whip stood out.
Dwayne Smith's innings was of two halves. During the first, he struggled to get bat on ball and limped to 8 off 20 balls. The second, during which he made up for his initial troubles, began with a thunderous straight drive off the leg-spin off Piyush Chawla, absolutely drilled past the bowler. Smith's last 12 deliveries produced 25 runs.
Manpreet Gony bowled an expensive spell but there was a moment's relief when he bowled Kieron Pollard, off a full toss that the batsman dragged onto his stumps. Gony celebrated and gave Pollard a send-off, only for replays to show he had bowled a no-ball. Pollard smiled, walked back towards the crease and gave back some, though it was all in good spirit.
