The selectors had initially picked Anwar for the ODI series but left him out for the two T20s preceding it, in order to give him time to recover from a minor groin injury. With Anwar failing to clear a fitness test, his place went to the uncapped Aamer Yamin.

Yamin, the 25-year-old allrounder from Multan, has played 25 first-class matches, in which he has scored 1058 runs at an average of 39.18, with three centuries, and taken 58 wickets at 28.34, with three five-wicket hauls.
