ACB announce Pura Media Man of the Match

The Australian Cricket Board announced today that, effective immediately, the best player of each Pura Milk Cup match will be presented with the Pura Milk Man of the Match trophy, an award not previously available at this level.

ACB Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said that the new award was a welcome initiative from the interstate competition's new sponsor.

"One of the benefits to cricket of having Pura Milk sponsor the interstate competition is the ability of the sponsor to introduce greater promotional support than the ACB could alone."

"This initiative is the first example of this type of support," Mr. Speed said.

Similar to the Mercantile Mutual Man of the Match, a designated media representative in attendance at each match will nominate the best player.

The Man of the Match trophy, which is currently being designed, will be presented at the end of each Pura Milk Cup match.

The Pura Milk Man of the Match for matches currently taking place will be formally recognised, but will receive his trophy at a later date.

The new Pura Milk Man of the Match award means that each level of elite Australian cricket now recognises the man of the match. Other man of the match awards are:

the Ansett Australia Test Man of the Match;

Carlton & United Series Man of the Match; and

the Mercantile Mutual Cup Man of the Match.

The Pura Milk Cup also provides the following awards:

Pura Milk Cup Player of the Year - $8,000 and a trophy (voted by match umpires on a 3,2,1 basis); and

Pura Milk Cup Player of the Final - $1,000 and a trophy (voted by match umpires on a 3,2,1 basis);
