Auckland amassed 400 for four from 104 overs on the first day of its
two-day cricket match against the New Zealand Academy at Lincoln
Green.
Apart from century-maker Richard Jones, Bryan Young, Stephen Lynch,
and Dion Nash all scored half centuries yesterday. Only captain Blair
Pocock missed out on the run feast, dismissed caught behind for one.
Young and Jones then added 132 for the second wicket with Young
reaching 83 in accomplished style from 120 balls with 17 fours,
although a stumping chance was missed on 35.
Jones carried on to complete a composed 106 from 175 balls and with
18 fours.
Lynch and Nash continued the run-scoring spree and both reached the
seventies.
Leg-spinner Tim Anderson toiled hard in the warm, windy conditions
and took two wickets, deceiving Lynch with a wrong'un and eventually
snaring Young.
Auckland coach David Trist indicated that the side would continue
batting on, confident that his spinners would trouble the Academy
batting line-up.
