15-Apr-1932
Australia, with Hurwood for Hornibrook the only change from the eleven that beat England at the Oval during the previous summer, gained a decisive victory by ten wickets. Up to the point that Australia had lost their first three batsmen for 64, West Indies made a capital fight but Kippax and McCabe added 182 by admirable cricket. Scott on the third morning took the last four wickets without conceding a run but West Indies were outplayed for the rest of the match. Grant, defending with great patience for three hours in the first innings and repeating his sterling opposition in the second, scored 124 runs altogether without being dismissed. On the opening day Bartlett by good free hitting made 84 out of 114 but Grant received little other help in his effort to set Australia a big task. In hitting off the 170 runs wanted for victory, Ponsford when 46 escaped being stumped and Jackson gave a chance when 32 but otherwise they batted in their best form.
