Barbados are one win away from regaining the Busta Cup
14-Feb-2001
Barbados are one win away from regaining the Busta Cup.
Their remarkable six-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands on Monday
lifted them from fifth place to joint second in the Busta Cricket
Series.
England A head the table with 51 points, six more than Barbados and
Guyana. But, under the rules of the competition, England A are
ineligible to win the Busta Cup.
They can only compete for the Busta International Shield, for which
the semifinalists will be the top four teams after the seventh round
of preliminary matches.
The Cup is to go to the highest placed Caribbean team after the
preliminaries matches.
Victories for both Barbados and Guyana in their final-round matches
will carry them to 57 points, but Barbados will be declared winners of
the Cup by virtue of recording more wins.
After Monday's sixth-round matches, Barbados had won three matches and
Guyana two.
In the final round of matches starting Friday, Barbados oppose
Trinidad and Tobago at Kensington Oval, while Guyana meet pointless
Windward Islands at Bourda.
