Akram Khan takes back his resignation

Akram Khan, the Bangladesh chief selector, has withdrawn his resignation letter and will continue in the position. Akram said that he had changed his decision after meeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"I have withdrawn the resignation letter that I had submitted," Akram said. "The day before yesterday, the honourable Prime Minister asked me to meet her. We discussed every aspect of cricket and she has assured me that there won't be any more problems.

"Tutul bhai [BCB director Dewan Shafiul Arefin] got out of her office yesterday and informed me that she has adviced me to withdraw the letter."

Akram, also a former national captain, had resigned three days ago, citing interference from the board president Mustafa Kamal regarding selection of the Asia Cup squad. His resignation came a day after Kamal rejected the inclusion of high-profile opener Tamim Iqbal, Akram's nephew, in the 14-man squad for the Asia Cup. Tamim was later added to the squad as the 15th player after having initially been listed as a reserve.

Akram had come down heavily on Kamal after submitting his resignation letter and pointed out some issues he had had as a chief selector with Kamal in the past. As a result, the question remained: whether it would be a problem for him to continue the job under the presidency of Kamal?

"What I can say is that I won't let those things happen again," Akram said. "I will work with full freedom."
