Putting an end to all controversy, it was decided Tuesday that the
national cricketers of Bangladesh will participate in the ensuing
domestic cricket league.
The decision came after an understanding was reached by Bangladesh
Cricket Board President and Deputy Minister for Shipping Saber Hossain
Chowdhury and the Cricket Committee for Dhaka Metropolis officials
during a meeting at the minister's secretariat office.
The controversy arose after the BCB last week suddenly announced that
the national cricketers will not be allowed to play in the domestic
league to enable them proper practice for the 1999 World Cup. This was
strongly protested by the CCDM.
The meeting also decided that the 80-over single league will begin in
the first week of December ahead of the Damal Smriti Cricket
tournament and should be completed within two months.
The World Cup preparatory camp of cricketers will begin in the first
week of January next and players will be allowed to take leave from
camp and participate in the respective league matches till January
30. But from January 31 onwards, no such players can take part in
domestic cricket.
The BCB will send to ICC by January 15 the list of a 30-member
Bangladesh squad for the 1999 England World Cup. It will pick up the
squad by end December.
As earlier announced, the transfer of cricketers began Wednesday. The
transfer formalities to be conducted from 5 pm to 8 pm every day will
conclude on Friday.
