Bank holiday success

A new month, a new game - Mullion looked to turn round their poor start to the season hosting Leedstown 2nd XI - and the 1st XI recorded an easy win. Losing the toss for the second time in three days, Mullion found themselves batting. Despite loosing Nick Casley early, Trevor Lee and skipper Jim Pearson put on 178. Trevor eventually fell on exactly 100 with Jim carrying on to make 74 not out, Mullion making a towering 226 for 3.

Leedstown were not allowed to settle as opening bowler Jeff Charleston again put in impressive figures of 12 overs, six maidens 4 for 16. This was nearly matched by Nick Casley claiming 3 for 4 in only two overs to wrap up the match. Leedstown succumbed for 74 in only 26 overs. Cockspur Rum Man of the Match went to Trevor Lee for his inaugural century for Mullion.

The seconds were away to St Ives 3rd XI and also claimed an easy victory. Losing the toss, they batted and St Ives C Higgs claimed 5 for 31. Mullion skipper Mark Johnson top scored with 25 as Mullion were bowled out for only 99.

Johnson switched bat for ball, opened the bowling for Mullion and tied up the opposition with six overs, five maidens, not taking a wicket but conceding only one run. The pressure built as a result and finally veteran Richard Kemp claimed 5 for 39 and Ian Laity 3 for 25 as Mullion bowled St Ives out for 73.
